Hearts Still Pump New Life Into Scottish Top Flight

Scottish top flight football is often criticised for being predictable and often dominated only by the Glasgow Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers who have long divvied up the top flight title between themselves through their histories of success - but the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership season has been an aberration, with Heart of Midlothian proving to be ambitious plucky upstarts.

With 32 games played in the league, Hearts continue to hold a one point advantage over Rangers, and a three point gap is held on Celtic, and that buffer zone on their nearest challengers has narrowed massively in recent weeks as their own form suffered a small wobble and it enabled them to play catch up.

For many though, much like a gambler at the best crypto casino online would about themselves, they would believe that Hearts continue to hold the advantage - however minor that may be - but fans of the other clubs involved would definitely argue with that stand point. Neutrals probably would not bank on Hearts holding out purely because of the pressure element and already blowing such a huge advantage, even though Derek McInnes more than knows what he is doing. And their gaffer is saying, and doing, all the right things right now.

Having been held to a 2-2 draw in their last match with Livingston, Hearts moved back to the top of the table ahead of the post split taking place, and the 54 year old was very quick to point out that he had to keep his own emotions in check at the end of the game as the players simply did not need him overreacting to a draw when it re-established their advantage to rub in just what a phenomenal campaign that they have had to this point.

With six games to go conceding a three point advantage to only a single point is obviously frustrating for both the team and the fans - but an advantage is an advantage at the end of the day, as much as it may also be a further opportunity missed. Hard fought draws can often decide titles after a long campaign, and Hearts fans will be hoping that Livingston proves to be one of the seven stalemates that they have had this year that ultimately takes them over the line.

Their away form does need addressing though with them winless in the last four, including games against the bottom pair - Kilmarnock and Livi. Positive results in those two would have certainly altered current perceptions as we entered the post split, but the squad can use that disappointment to drive them further forward and at the very least help them into far more comfortable victories again, as opposed to taking more narrow wins that just add to the nerves.

Whatever this campaign now brings, it has certainly been a more interesting one for the neutrals to follow and for a wider footballing world perspective, Hearts leading the pile for so long would have only attracted new and additional eyes onto the league and in the long run. that can only be of benefit to the wider Scottish game.
