Hearts Lead the Scottish Premiership for the First Time Since 1960

As of 23rd April 2026, Heart of Midlothian sat at the top of the William Hill Premiership.

The post-split fixture begins on the 25th of April, with Hearts facing Hibernian at Easter Road the following day. A return to Tynecastle for the Rangers on the 4th of May and a season-ending visit to Celtic Park on the 16th of May still await. 

They’ve come so far this season. However, can they hold their nerve? That’s the million-dollar question. If they can, it’ll be the club's first league title since the 1959 - 1960 season. 

The Title Race as It Stands 

Impressively, Hearts haven’t lost a league match at Tynecastle all season. Their defensive record has been remarkable, keeping a clean sheet in seven of their last ten matches. 

Danny Rohl’s side, Rangers, have been on form as well. They’ve currently gone 11 league games unbeaten and are just behind Hearts in the league table. 

Celtic, who sit in third place at the moment, had issues with management at the start of the football year. Despite this, they’ve done well to win 21 of their 33 matches played. 

Falkirk deserves a mention as well. They’ve secured their top-six spot. This is actually the first time they’ve been able to achieve this since 2009 - 2010.  

What This Could Mean for Hearts 

Hearts winning the title won’t just be historical for the club. It could absolutely transform the club's finances. 

According to Football Insider’s breakdown of the SPFL prize money, the Premiership winners are estimated to receive around £4.59 million. This is a massive jump from the previous £2.018 million they won for finishing 7th last season. 

Then there’s Europe. A title win could send Hearts into Champions League qualifying. Clubs that even reach the group stage unlock millions in UEFA prize money. Such extra capital will change everything for the club, increasing transfer budgets, stronger contract offers for existing players, and more. 

Sponsorship and commercial deals would likely then follow. A title-winning club always brings attention. This attention will most likely be from a casino online UK platform looking to reach Scottish football fans. Many clubs already have sponsors in such a domain, including Celtic and Rangers. 

What Happens Next 

We’ll have to see. However, with six matches to go, it’s looking promising. The fixtures they have remaining aren’t easy. But with such a good league behind them, this momentum may be what they need to succeed. 

Regardless of whether they win it on the final day at Celtic Park or fall short in the final, it has certainly been a good season for Hearts. Even if they don’t win, the season will be one that fans won’t forget.
