Algorithms are changing our conversations and getting in the way of genuine closeness
Just fifteen years ago, artificial intelligence seemed like something out of science fiction. And it was difficult for an ordinary person even to imagine that they would be using it routinely in everyday life. But today, everything has changed. Neural networks help save time on routine tasks and are actively used for searching for information, writing emails, translating texts, planning, creative work and much more. But despite all the advantages, the widespread adoption of AI also has its downsides. We will discuss them below.
AI assistants are reshaping our speech and expectations
Artificial intelligence has become an indispensable assistant for people of all ages. It is used by schoolchildren and students, professionals in various fields and older people. Some ask an AI assistant to explain a difficult topic, others delegate routine work tasks to it, while others look for answers to health-related questions. And there is nothing wrong with that. After all, in many cases AI really does save time, so why not use it?
Problems begin when people delegate too many functions to AI assistants. Especially when this concerns not work or routine tasks, but simple interaction with each other. For example, someone receives a message from a friend and, instead of replying themselves, asks an AI assistant to come up with suitable wording. On the one hand, this is very convenient. After all, AI can help you respond in a friendlier, more restrained or calmer way. But in most cases, the appearance of this so-called intermediary only does harm.
By constantly turning to an AI assistant for help, we lose the ability to communicate independently in real life. AI removes the need for us to make any effort. And many people overuse it. After all, why come up with something yourself when you can ask a neural network to write a greeting, a compliment or even a message to make up after an argument? In addition, we also become accustomed to responses being logical, structured and well formulated. And, most importantly, instant. As a result, ordinary human speech can seem too slow and irritate us because of awkward wording and pauses.
In a real conversation, we do not have the opportunity to quickly improve our response. We may take a long time to find the right words, stumble, make mistakes or have no idea what to say at all. And that is perfectly normal. After all, all of this makes communication feel alive. Moreover, genuine closeness in a relationship develops when people gradually show each other who they really are. And sometimes an imperfect phrase is much more valuable than a carefully edited text. So if we allow AI to become our voice, we risk losing the most important thing — closeness in relationships.
Omegle chat as a sanctuary of randomness
Another problem that has emerged against the backdrop of the widespread use of AI is predictability. Today, smart algorithms decide for us what music we will listen to, what film we will watch and who we will communicate with. They analyse our interests, preferences and behaviour on social media and dating apps. And then they show us what, in theory, we might like. At first glance, this is convenient. After all, we do not need to browse hundreds of profiles ourselves to narrow down the search. But the problem is that algorithms deprive us of random encounters. And in real life, we may become interested in someone who does not fit our usual type at all.
Therefore, the more personalised and predictable the online environment becomes, the more people need randomness. And they find it in chat roulettes. The first Omegle chat became a true sanctuary of randomness. There were no personalised recommendations here, as there are in dating apps. Each time, the system connected two random users, and it was impossible to predict who would be on the other side of the screen. Due to moderation problems, the platform ceased to exist, but users liked the format so much that numerous Omegle alternatives appeared. One of them is Omegle.chat. It has a large and active audience around the world, and your chat partner could be someone from the next street or from another continent.
Most importantly, communication in a random video chat takes place in real time. You can see and hear your chat partner as though you were in the same room and can be sure that they are not using AI. In addition, video brings non-verbal signals back into communication. You can see the person’s facial expressions, hear their intonation, notice how they react to your words and how their intonation and facial expressions change. And you can know for certain that you are communicating with a real person rather than a bot. Moreover, Omegle chat carefully monitors the platform to ensure that the atmosphere is conducive to communication. Therefore, fakes, bots and anyone who breaks the rules are immediately blocked by moderators.
Returning to dialogue without intermediaries
Many people underestimate the importance of communication skills. But in reality, everyone needs to be able to formulate their thoughts independently, especially when it comes to relationships with those close to them. After all, our relatives, friends and partners do not need perfectly crafted responses. They want to know that the words they read or hear genuinely come from us.
So there is no need to try to make every conversation perfect by turning to AI for help. Do not be afraid to write in your own words, pause, make jokes at the wrong moment and speak honestly about what is troubling you. After all, all of this makes communication alive, genuine and sincere. And do not forget that you can improve your skills only by communicating with real people. So choose platforms without automated prompts, ready-made responses or algorithmic recommendations. Delegate work and everyday tasks to AI, but develop your ability to express your own thoughts and feelings yourself. And then technology will be your friend rather than your enemy.
