Lawal set for SPFL breakthrough

Lawal set for SPFL breakthrough

The 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season could see a very exciting Celtic talent have a breakthrough campaign.

Celtic, led by Brendan Rodgers, won the league title last season and will be hoping to replicate this success again this campaign. The Hoops’ chances of being dominant in Scotland is boosted by Bosun Lawal, who is looking to make a name for himself and break into the first team.

The 21 year-old Irish centre-back has been a part of Celtic’s B team, playing 21 games and scoring 6 goals along the way.

Last season, the young prospect headed out on loan to Fleetwood Town in England’s League One, where he managed 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and managing 2 assists. Lawal also helped the club keep 11 clean sheets.

Celtic are the clear favourites to win the Scottish Premiership this season, with an odds converter translating pre-season predictions into a 67% chance. Lawal could be a key player for the club as they look to lift the title.

Lawal has been a part of the senior squad during their pre-season trip in America and he even featured as Celtic thrashed Premier League side Chelsea 4-1.

The club have some very good centre-backs at the club already in Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers, so it isn’t expected that Lawal would come straight into the starting XI. However, with multiple cup competitions, including European football, Rodgers will need to rely on his whole squad, so now is the perfect time for Lawal to make a name for himself.

He has a great defensive pairing to learn from as well, and this will see him improve massively.

The Celtic manager also piled the praise on the young defender after his performance in the friendly against Ayr United, which ended 1-1. Speaking to the media, Rodgers said: “I really like Bosun. He is a player clearly that has got a lot of physical attributes. But what he has as well is a lot of football ability. Been out on loan and you can see he has had that experience and has that power and quality to break though.”

It feels like this campaign has come at the perfect time for Lawal, and if he wants to make a name for himself, then he will need to showcase his potential when he is selected.
