Top-five longest-serving players in the Scottish Premiership

There have been many players to ply their trade in the Scottish Premiership over the years, with some notable players sticking around in Scotland’s top-flight more than others. With data drawn together from BonusCodeBets, we’ll take you through the top-five longest serving players currently playing in the Scottish Premiership.

Lewis Stevenson - 16 years & 4 months

Lewis Stevenson takes the number one spot as the longest-serving player currently playing in the Scottish Premiership. Despite being 35, he’s still playing regularly for Hibernian in the 2023/24 season, and he’ll be eager to continue to feature from now till the end of the season, as he’s shown he’s a more than reliable option to have in the Hibs team that are fifth in the Scottish Premiership table after 14 matches this season.

Stevenson has made 15 appearances this season, which takes his total 575 appearances across all competitions for Hibernian, which is the club he’s been with since 2002, before making his first-team debut in 2005. The left-back is out of contract at the end of this season though, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can agree a new deal with Hibs heading towards the New Year.

Paul Hanlon - 15 years & 4 months

Hanlon is the second Hibernian player to feature in this list already, and he’s been with the club for 15 years and four months in total, which catches the eye in terms of loyalty towards one club. The 33-year-old spent a brief loan spell with St Johnstone, but has played the large majority of his football with Hibernian, for whom he’s made 550 appearances.

Hanlon is the club’s captain, and has made 17 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 season, and he’ll be keen to add to that already impressive number as the season heads towards the festive period.

James Forrest - 13 years & 4 months

Forrest broke into the Celtic first-team in 2010, having previously joined the club’s academy in 2002. The winger has been nothing short of sensational in his time with the Bhoys over the years, and has scored 103 goals, and been on hand to provide 101 assists in his 477 appearances with Celtic.

The 32-year-old is capped at senior level for Scotland as well, and will be eager to play a part in the upcoming European Championships campaign next summer. He’s won 11 Scottish Premiership titles, and has been included in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year on three occasions.

Rory McKenzie - 11 years & 4 months

Rory McKenzie is at number four on this list, with the 30-year-old being with Kilmarnock since 2005 as a youngster. He made his first-team debut in 2011, and has been a regular in the starting XI ever since.

The Irvine-born winger has made 11 appearances in the 2023/24 season, and will be hoping he can get off the mark in terms of goals, as he’s yet to find the back of the net for Killie so far this term, despite them making a strong start to this year’s league campaign.

Callum McGregor - 10 years & 4 months

McGregor has been with Celtic since 2001, but made his senior debut for the Scottish giants back in 2013, and it’s safe to say that he hasn’t looked back since. The midfielder has gone on to make 438 appearances in total for Celtic, and is the club’s current first-team captain.

The Scottish international has been a key member of the Celtic team in the last ten years, and has won eight league titles, as well as five Scottish Cups, and seven Scottish League Cup’s in his time with Celtic, which certainly makes for impressive reading. At the age of 30, he’s got plenty of time to add to that trophy collection, and with the Bhoys making a strong start to this year’s league campaign, it seems inevitable that McGregor will edge closer to his ninth league title this term.
