Transfers

Celtic are busy looking to make last year’s excellent moves permanent. The deal to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham is complete, with just a few points to be discussed.

Erik Botheim is on Ranger’s radar. The Norwegian striker could make a difference to the goals scored. In 2021/2022, the total dropped from 92 down to 80, so this deal could make a significant impact. New faces will undoubtedly be seen at Easter Road, with Lee Johnson as manager for Hibs and winger Jair Tavares arriving as one of his first signings.

First Fixtures

The opening weekend for the SPL will take place on July 30th. Five thrillers will be played on that first Saturday, and the first match on Sunday.

Newly-promoted Kilmarnock will be eager to start off strong. The weekend will start with Livingston vs Rangers at 12 pm GMT+1. Hearts vs Ross County, St Johnstone vs Hibernian and St Mirren vs Motherwell will all kick off in the afternoon. The defense of the title will begin on Sunday with Celtic hosting Aberdeen. The Edinburgh rivalry will heat up the following weekend as Hearts head to Hibs. The tension will only kick up a notch in September when the first Old Firm derby will occur at Celtic Park.

A Five-Week Break

This year the Premiership will take a five-week break in November. The pause starts on November 12, to facilitate the World Cup in Qatar.

Even though Scotland hasn’t qualified for Qatar 2022, the disruption is still scheduled to go ahead. Officials indicate organizational, commercial and logistical reasons.

With several SPL teams guaranteed to be included, arranging the fixtures has become more challenging than usual. Still, with Celtic, Hearts and Rangers all set to play on the European stage, there’s plenty for Scottish football fans to look forward to.
