3 Contenders to lift the SPL title this upcoming season

The start of the Scottish Premier League season is fast approaching and fans across the country will be facing up to the new campaign with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.

Celtic of course are the reigning champions and they have dominated the Scottish top- flight for some time now; will they claim another SPL title next term?

Rangers, under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard, made significant progress last season- could they end Celtic’s period of dominance?

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top contenders for the 2019/20 Scottish Premier League campaign.

Celtic

Last season saw the hoops claim an astonishing 50th League title, and their 8th in a row. Having started off the season with Brendan Rogers at the helm, things were going swimmingly (at least on the domestic front) before the Northern Irishman departed south to take up the hot seat at Leicester City.

Neill Lennon returned to take over for the duration of the season and has since been confirmed as permanent manager on a 12-month contract.

On paper, and going by recent history, Celtic are favourites to win their 51st crown this upcoming season and it would take a brave man to bet against them. Last term they won 27 out of 38 games so if you do like a flutter on the hoops but want to make a decent profit then check out places like matched betting sites because they can guarantee you a profit and it’s much easier to use matched betting software if you do back Celtic often- it saves you the hassle of roaming around for the best odds on them to win.

Rangers

Second on the list, and this may be controversial for some, but given the progress Gerrard and the Ibrox team made last season they could pull off a bit of shock and topple Celtic off their perch this upcoming season.

Gerrard used his Liverpool connections last year to bring some fresh faces to the blue half of Glasgow and he will once again be looking to use his connection to bring more quality to Ibrox once again.

Obviously given what’s happened to Rangers over the last decade, money will still be tight but if Gerrard can add some quality, build on the positive team spirit he developed last season, then Rangers could be serious contenders this time around.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen finished 4th last season which may make you think why have they been included on this list of title contenders? However, if anyone is to push Celtic all the way you could argue that they have the best chance.

Since he took over at Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has done a wonderful job, working on a limited budget, and he has nowhere near the resource Celtic, or even Rangers, have at their disposal.

The former Dundee player is renowned for playing an attractive style of football that has won his team plenty of plaudits and they did manage to win 20 matches last season. If they can add that little bit more quality and stay consistent throughout the season, they do have a realistic chance of pulling of a shock SPL title victory.
