SPFL Roundup - Sat 10th April 2026
Right then shaggers, we've had another belter of a Saturday across the SPFL as we continue to hurtle into brown trouser season. The Premiership regular season is nearly over, and down the divisions things are heating up nicely with all three titles still up for grabs. Let's get stuck in!
Premiership
Today's Results
What a day in the top flight, with some results that will have significant implications for both ends of the table. Up at Parkhead, Celtic did what they needed to do, bagging a tight 1-0 win over St Mirren. It wasn't a classic, but three points are three points, especially when you're chasing the league leaders.
Speaking of league leaders, Hearts put on a dominant display at Tynecastle, seeing off a struggling Motherwell 3-1. That's a massive win for the Jambos, extending their lead at the top and piling more misery on Motherwell.
Dundee United edged out Livingston 3-2 in a proper ding-dong battle, Livi's wait for a win goes on and they could be officially relegated in Paisley in MD 34.
The points were shared at Rugby Park where Kilmarnock and Dundee played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Both teams will feel they could have nicked it, with a point not really doing either a whole lot of good.
Finally, Aberdeen grabbed a much-needed 2-0 victory over Hibernian at Pittodrie. That'll be a huge relief for the Dons and certainly puts a dent in Hibs' European aspirations.
Current Standings & Implications
So, where does that leave us? Hearts are sitting pretty at the summit with 70 points, three clear of Celtic on 67. Critically, Rangers, who play Sunday, are just one point behind Celtic with a game in hand – that title race is going right down to the last day isn't it!
Motherwell's defeat sees them remain fourth, but their grip on that European spot is looking increasingly shaky, especially with Hibs still lurking despite their loss. Falkirk, in sixth, could yet get themselves back in that conversation if they can beat Rangers today.
At the bottom, Livingston are in absolute dire straits, rooted to the foot of the table with a measly 16 points. They're cut adrift and staring relegation square in the face. Kilmarnock and St Mirren are battling it out just above them, with today's results doing little to ease their fears. Aberdeen's win is massive for their survival hopes, pushing them three ahead of St.Mirren and a huge five ahead of Kilmarnock who they play next.
Notable Streaks & What's Next
Motherwell's form is a concern – five games without a win now, and they need to turn that around fast if they want to stay in the European hunt. Spare a thought for Livingston, who are now an astonishing 31 games without a win. Dundee are also on a four-game winless streak, which they'll be keen to snap.
Next up, Celtic host Falkirk, a game they'll be expected to win comfortably to keep the pressure on. Hearts face a tricky away trip to Hibernian in what promises to be a fiery Edinburgh derby. Motherwell have the unenviable task of travelling to Rangers. The bottom six battle sees St Mirren host Livingston which could seal the Lions fate, and Dundee United welcome Dundee for a local derby that could have huge implications for the Dark Blues.
Championship
Today's Results
The Championship delivered some cracking action today! Partick Thistle continued their impressive run with a solid 2-0 home win over Dunfermline. Elsewhere, Ayr United grabbed a narrow 1-0 victory against Arbroath. St Johnstone absolutely hammered Airdrieonians 4-0, a statement win if ever there was one. And in a five-goal thriller, Raith Rovers defeated Greenock Morton 3-2.
Current Standings & Implications
St Johnstone are flying high at the top with 68 points after that dominant win, but Partick Thistle are right on their tails, just five points behind. The battle for the play-off spots is surely over with Arbroath & Dunfermline all but there. At the bottom, Airdrieonians and Ross County are looking racing certs now to take up the bottom two places, with the Staggies dismal form seeing them staring down both barrels at back to back relegations.
Notable Streaks & What's Next
Partick Thistle are absolutely flying, now 11 games unbeaten! Similarly, league leaders St Johnstone are also 11 games without a loss – incredible consistency from both sides. On the flip side, Arbroath are in a bit of a slump with three losses on the bounce. Next weekend sees Partick Thistle and St Johnstone both on the road, against Airdrieonians and Dunfermline respectively, whilst Arbroath will be desperate to end their losing streak at home to Raith Rovers.
League One
Today's Results
League One dished up some intriguing results. East Fife secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Peterhead, while Hamilton edged out Alloa Athletic 1-0. Kelty Hearts bagged a convincing 3-1 victory against Montrose. Queen of the South were too strong for Cove Rangers, winning 2-0. The only draw of the day came at Ochilview, where Stenhousemuir and Inverness CT shared the spoils in a 1-1 encounter.
Current Standings & Implications
That draw means Stenhousemuir still lead the pack on 61 points, but Inverness CT are breathing down their necks, just two points behind with a game in hand – that title race is going to be immense! Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South now look assured of the play-offs with Peterhead's dream now all but dead. Down at the bottom, Hamilton (despite their win) and Kelty Hearts are in a desperate scrap to avoid the drop, along with Cove who are not out of danger yet.
Notable Streaks & What's Next
Stenhousemuir's incredible 19-game unbeaten run continues, what a season they're having! Queen of the South are also enjoying a great spell, now seven games unbeaten. Inverness CT have developed a habit of drawing, with four on the trot. Peterhead, meanwhile, are struggling, now five games without a win. Next week, Stenhousemuir visit Cove Rangers, while Inverness CT travel to Peterhead in a game they'll be expected to win.
League Two
Today's Results
League Two had plenty of action for us. Annan Athletic comfortably beat Elgin City 3-0 away from home. Forfar Athletic secured a superb 1-0 win against league leaders East Kilbride. Dumbarton grabbed a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion to keep up their fine form, and Clyde were clinical, beating Edinburgh City 2-0. Finally, Stranraer nicked an excellent 2-1 win away at Spartans.
Current Standings & Implications
That shock loss means East Kilbride remain top on 60 points, but their place in the summit was saved by that surprise home defeat for Spartans, who will be gutted to have lost today. Clyde have solidified their play-off position, with Stranraer, Forfar Athletic, Elgin and Annan now all in the race for that final place. At the foot of the table, Edinburgh City are already consigned to the play off to stay in the SPFL.
Notable Streaks & What's Next
Dumbarton are enjoying a fantastic nine-game unbeaten run, which has pulled them miles away from the bottom. Edinburgh City, on the other hand, are in freefall, with five losses in a row. Next up, East Kilbride host Dumbarton in a tricky fixture, while Spartans travel to Annan Athletic. The bottom two, Stirling Albion and Edinburgh City, face Elgin City and Forfar Athletic respectively.
Well, there you have it! From the nail-biting title race in the Premiership to the frantic battles for promotion and against relegation across all four divisions, Scottish football continues to deliver. The next few weeks are going to be absolutely massive, let's get it!
