  • Hibs' title odds plummet with the mercury

HIBS' LADBROKES Championship odds are falling as fast as the temperature according to the league sponsors.

An avalanche of bets on the Hibees to land the title has forced the bookies to take evasive action, cutting the side to 9/2 from the 16/1 chalked up three weeks ago.

Following the weekend results a whopping 87% of bets on the Championship winner are for the Boys in Green, leaving Rangers to drift to 1/8 from the certain-looking 1/100 offered last month.

Fans who think Jason Cummings will fire his team to glory while landing the division's Golden Boot gong can take 16/1 he gets that double up this season.

David Macdonald of Ladbrokes said:"Only a few weeks ago we had punters pleading with us to pay out on Rangers but we're glad we kept the book open. Hibs are certainly heating things up while temperatures plummet and the betting suggests the Championship will go to the wire."

  • Bookies tipping goals for Cole

Carlton Cole is a red hot bet to make an impact on the Scottish Premiership according to sponsors Ladbrokes.

The bookmaker wasted no time in pricing up the hitman to make an immediate impact on the league north of the border, making him a 2/1 shot to score 16+ goals in all competitions this season, and it's 16/1 his tally leaves him as the club's top scorer.

At 50/1 it's an outside chance he shines through enough to receive phone call from Roy Hodgson for a return to the England set up.

David Macdonald of Ladbrokes said: "Carlton Cole has a big presence in the box and that's something Celtic have been missing of late, he'll easily find the back of the net and we fancy him to make it well into double figures."

    Ladbrokes latest betting

    Carlton Cole specials:

To score 16+ goals for Celtic in all comps this season 2/1
To score a hat trick for Celtic this season 3/1
To be Celtic's top scorer (league goals only) this season 16/1
To Get an England Recall 50/1

  • Euro 2016: The Winner Takes It All

We have to wait one more year till the Euro 2016 Championship will go live, but the countdown has already begun. And it’s never too soon to question which team will carry the day.

    Germany, a pair of wildcats

Four World Cups and three European trophies stand for Germany’s dexterity, boldness and grit. They win by never taking “no” for an answer. They get better by never being satisfied. Before every match, the management makes sure the team is always in good spirits: details are top priority, little advantages are the ace up their sleeve, a gutsy coach is de rigueur, and self-confidence is a given. But can they win it all, again?

    France, the lucky hosts

Since France’s first official match, played in 1904, many trophies were taken home by a team who had the honour to participate in the inaugural World Cup; back in the 30’s. With one FIFA World Cup, two UEFA titles, one Olympic tournament and two FIFA Confederations Cups, France might turn back the hands of time and win the Euro 2016. The ball is in their court. Literally.

    Spain, La Furia Roja indeed

The Spain-Belarus game was Vicente del Bosque’s no. 100 game. And it happened to be the same that qualified Spain for the Euro 2016, making Belarus turn on the waterworks. The 2014 Brazil experience might bring up some bad memories, but now, a younger generation is about to step up and show everybody what the Spanish fuerza is all about.

    Netherlands, forever trying

The flying Dutchmen hit the headlines by holding the record for participating in the most FIFA cup finals without ever winning the tournament. 1988 was the last year they opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate the UEFA Championship. Perhaps, they’ll give it a whirl at the Euro 2016, and they’ll cheer everybody up. They promise to play in a blaze of glory, but would you place a bet on the Het Nederlands Elftal being aware of their stormy past?

These aforementioned teams have all it takes to win the Euro 2016 title, but others can leave us open-mouthed too: Belgium, Italy, England and Portugal are ready, willing, and able. Keep yourself up-to-date, so you won’t be caught off-guard by a team you never even considered able to win.

  • Scottish Football Tips Best Bets 14th November 2015

We are delighted to continue a tie up with Scottish Football Tips who will be providing us with a regular series of free football tips. These guys have a great track record of success in tipping and are well worth a follow on twitter too (@FitbaTips).

It’s three winning NAPS in a row for Pie & Bovril readers and that ties in with our own success over on the Scottish Football Tips website.

You get more there than we have the time or space to write on here but it’s very pleasing that this page has started so well. We are going for NAP number four this week but I have had to change my preferred option due to a decreasing price.

Due to the vagaries of football betting the earlier you get on a price the better, more often than not. I usually start looking on a Tuesday, consider on a Wednesday, back on a Thursday and write this article on a Friday.

On Wednesday I backed there to be under three goals in the Morton v Queens match at 2.35(27/20) with Coral. That price is unfortunately long gone and the best available now is 2.0(evens) with Paddy Power and Skybet.

That was my NAP and to be fair it probably still should be given the stats. Instead though I am looking at the Petrofac Training Cup semi-final from Hampden where Queens Park will hope home advantage gives them an edge over Peterhead. Plenty will see a price of 2.1(11/10) with bet365 on the away side as great value and that’s hard to argue with.

But it being a semi-final I prefer to play with a different market. Latter stages of cup tournaments always (for always read usually) see a decrease in goal production. It’s obvious why.

What also happens is that goals that are produced generally come in the latter stages of the matches, particularly if one of the sides is trailing. That leaves them taking greater risks to score in turn leaving them more exposed. Simple stuff, really.

On this occasion we have two sides who have the stats to back up goals usually being scored in the latter stages of matches. Twelve of the nineteen goals in Peterhead’s away games have been scored in the 2nd half. Meanwhile twenty-one of Queens Park’s thirty-two league goals (scored and conceded) have been in the 2nd half.

Those stats allied to the nature of the game make me think that the second half is very likely to be the highest scoring. Skybet offer evens on that outcome and that is good enough for me.

For the IWAC I am going to Dunfermline who I think are priced up quite high at 2.2(6/5) with McBookie to win. Sure they have drawn two blanks recently but I fancy them to knock back into gear here. Airdrieonians have won just two of their last seven games and The Pars have averaged more than three goals in their away games so far.

I fancy a handicap here too, particularly at a price of 4.3(33/10) with 888Sport. My hopes for this were boosted thanks to The Pars in the forums who noted that they have done very well on astro-turf this season with 0-4 and 0-5 wins away from home.

    NAP

Queens Park v Peterhead Highest Scoring Half - 2nd @ 2.0 with Skybet

    IWAC

    Dunfermline -1 @ 4.33 with 888Sport

Good luck as ever this weekend.

  • Scottish Football Tips Best Bets 31st October 2015

We are delighted to continue a tie up with Scottish Football Tips (www.scottishfootballtips.com), who will be providing us with a regular series of betting tips, primarily focused around the Scottish game. These guys have a great track record of success in tipping and are well worth a follow on twitter too (@FitbaTips).

It couldn't have got much better for Pie & Bovril readers last week as the NAP and IWAC both won. The NAP might have been a bit short at 1.73(8/11) but that was more than made up for by Annan obliging with a 3.6(13/5) IWAC.

Taking a slightly different tack this week with the IWAC in the form of a goals treble from Leagues 1 & 2.

The NAP, though, is along very similar lines with Both Teams To Score the main feature.

It comes from New Douglas Park where Hamilton host Saint Johnstone and anyone keeping a cursory glance on matters Fitba will know that when Saint Johnstone play goals are usually in the offing.

That didn't work out so well last week but you can excuse the occasional slip up. Particularly when 888Sport seem intent on outdoing themselves by offering even money on the outcome. Last week was the first domestic encounter where both teams didn't score in a Saints match. They were true to form again though in the league cup midweek.

The Perth Saints like to score and concede in equal measure and a price of 2.0(evens) has opportunity plastered all over it. If you prefer to back +2.5 goals you can take McBookie up on their 2.25(5/4) and honestly I wouldn't blame you. Although a bit like last weeks nap if there are to be three goals in this game they are unlikely to be coming from the one side.

Elsewhere you can get 1.91(10/11) also with McBookie on +2.5 goals at Killie and as mentioned before that would have succeeded in eleven of their last twelve home games. Motherwell are the opposite end of the goals spectrum though so while I am backing it personally there is enough doubt to prevent me making it a NAP.

In League 1 you should still get 1.91(10/11) with bet365 on an Ayr Utd victory. I notice some Ayr fans in the forum are disconcerted by their fellow fans' exuberance but it looks justified to me. Even with Craig Moore injured there are goals all through The Honest Men. With 15 goals in 5 home league games and a 5-0 smashing of The Blue Brazil last time out it says enough for me.

The IWAC(In With A Chance) is  treble of goals bets. It is best priced with league sponsors Ladbrokes at 3.72(68/25) and should have a good chance all things going well.

    NAP

Hamilton Academical v Saint Johnstone BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE @ 2.0 with 888Sport

    IWAC

    Cowd/Dunf (+2.5), Forf/Brech(+2.5), Mont/Berw(BTTS) @ 3.72 with Ladbrokes

  • Sunday 23/08 Tips

We're going to start of our daily tip run by concentrating on the Championship match at Ibrox today where Rangers take on Hibernian.

Gers have had a fairly rampant start to the season, scoring 19 goals in their perfect start of five wins from five across all competitions including a 6-2 thumping of today's opponents just 4 weeks ago.

Can't take an awful lot from that one because Hibs did field an under strength side but this Rangers team scores goals and that is sure to continue today.

In three meetings with Championship rivals in those opening five matches the Gers have also conceded in every match so the offer of Rangers & BTTS @ 3.10 (Bet 365) certainly appeals.

I also like the look of the treble of over 4.5 cards, over 9 corners and over 1.5 match goals which pays the same odds (3.10).

So I'm going to split today's £10 bet in two and punt a fiver on both outcomes.

    Today's Tips;

£5 on Rangers to win & Both Teams to Score @ 3.10 returns £15.50
£5 on treble of over 4.5 cards, over 9 corners and over 1.5 match goals @ 3.10 returns £15.50
