jags_mad
Far from it. The omission of an n is barely worth commenting upon when compared with "independant" X 1500! twas a typo, please accept my humble apology
jags_mad
Labour are most certainly not right-wing. Tax rises, government interference everywhere, benefits going up, record levels of borrowing... need I go on? No party of the right would do these things. Labour are not the socialists they were, but they are still a left of centre party. As usual, the left manage to make a complete arse of the country and pile us up in debt whatever, the snp are also a 'left of centre' party. but this isnt what labour claim! lies and scare tactics
Colkitto
Well don't make sweeping statements like "Scotland wants independence" then Seriously, that's something out of the bog standard SNP grandstanding book. Until such times as the SNP, or all separatist parties combined achieve more than 50% of the vote, I refuse to believe that Scotland "wants" independence. Not all voters who vote for unionist parties believe in the union amazingly. It's estimated around 40% of Labour voters would be interested in voting YES in a referendum. Doesn't matter anyway, the SNP train is on a roll and gains more popularity every year. The old-school Labour brigade are slowy but surely dying off. Only a matter of time. Michael W
whatever, the snp are also a 'left of centre' party. but this isnt what labour claim!lies and scare tactics At current, yes, although there is quite a strong right-wing element in the party. They weren't dubbed the "Tartan Tories" for nothing. Lefty parties can all piss off as far as I'm concerned. f**k Labour, and to f**k with the SNP. It's estimated around 40% of Labour voters would be interested in voting YES in a referendum. Nothing amazing about it. Many long-term Labour voters support the party in the belief it will give the ordinary person a better deal. The matter of the union doesn't necessarily come into it. Some of these voters would also be happy living in an independent Scotland with a socialist slant.

Colkitto
And now Tell the Fuhrer. We will see how democratic the unionist parties are when the Bill comes before parliament in 2010. If they are so confident they will win a referendum then they should vote the Bill through no problem. I fear they won't however...

centralparker
Why can't we have it now? Maybe the time isn't right. No political party takes an instant gamble when they have got several years to play with. Basic strategy.

Ad Lib
Why can't you read the manifesto? I'm perfectly aware of that being their promise, but I'd question why they chose to hold it then? If they truly believe that the Scottish people want independence, they would have no preference as to whether it was held now or then. Or do the Scottish people not yet favour independence?
