Adelaide University 3 Adelaide Omonia Cobras 2 aet. This was the first preliminary round of the South Australian section of this year’s Australia Cup (formerly the FFA Cup). Uni were promoted last season from State League 2 to State League 2 so they now have to play league games at a fully enclosed venue. That doesn’t matter in the Cup so back to the Uni grounds, It’s autumn here but it was 33C in Adelaide today. In fact it’s still 32.1 at 6.30pm. Uni were 2-0 up, Cobras had player sent off but score 2 in the last 30 minutes. Cobras had another player sent off early in extra time and Uni scored the winner.

Promoted to the same division, that's like something the SPFL would come up with.

As it’s ground hop weekend over there I did my own version here. Headed off to Charles Cane Reserve, Prospect (4 min drive) for another Australia Cup tie with SA Amateur Soccer League Saturday Premier A side BOSA (Blackfriars Old Scholars Association) FC at home to State League 2 side Noarlunga United. Missed the first half but Noarlunga led 1-0. BOSA’s league season doesn’t start until April 9, Noarlunga had played 4 league games and in 5th position, W 1 D 4. BOSA had a couple of chances early in the 2nd half but Noarlunga were too strong and ended up winning 5-0. It was a warm night with no wind and was 26.1 C at full time (8.50 pm). Crowd about 120.

Crossgates Primrose 1-2 Penicuik Athletic
Big crowd due to the groundhop weekend. Penicuik were the better side and deserved their win. With this visit I've now completed the East of Scotland Premier Division.

Carlisle United 1-2 Newport County. Last time I attended a game here I never attended another football game for 15 months. Hopefully not be the same this time. County were better team by some way and should have won by more. If they can get some of injured players back they will be in with a shout of automatic promotion. Carlisle did not look as bad a team as their league position suggests.

Great pics Jute. Is that a real camera or have you got a very posh phone?

Just taken with phone. Have enough trouble not breaking/losing that never mind a posh camera.

Threave Rovers 2-4 St Cuthbert Wanderers.

Haig Gordon Cup 2nd Round.

Attendance approx 160 (headcount)

Local derby on a Wednesday night with the top 2 in the SoSFL playing each other in one of the wee cups.

Both sides had early chances before Ross Hunter put Saints 1-0 with a right good "that'll teach ye" charging down Threave's goalie in possession when he probably shouldn't have been.

Scrappy equaliser by Threave, but well put away by Phil Middlemiss. HT 1-1.

2nd Half St Cuthberts started by far the better team. A debatable freekick given by the linesman led to a good header by Taylor. Then a cracking ball by big midfielder Tam Kelly got Saints in behind and eventually Hunter got the ball over the line, just. The linesman gave the goal instantly but with no comms the ref didn't seem to have noticed and play nearly continued.

Threave got one back and then the game became scrappy, before Williamson sealed it for the away side with a shot from the edge of the box that seemed to baffle the keeper.

Job done by the champions elect and on to the semi vs Caley Braves B team.

Threave and St Cuthberts do it all again in another cup game on Saturday.
