Dundonald Bluebell 2-2 Spartans

Loved it! After last week's disaster we needed a good game in a good ground and got it and then some. First game without the big jacket as well.

5th round of the South Challenge Cup sees East Premier play Lowland League. Spartans with eyes on League Two next year against Dundonald surely safe in the East Premier. Spartans dominate much of the first half kicking down the slope and deservedly lead at half time. Bluebell score a magnificent header to equalise. Spartans retake the lead from a free header before another quality goal from the hosts levels us again. The game heads to extra time after a dreadful miss for Spartans with the last kick of the game. Our third SCC tie this year and the third to go to extra time, it's the first to go to penalties though. Spartans composure sees them through in the end after four perfect penalties when Bluebell miss two.

Moorside is a fantastic ground. Everyone should go, several times, we'll definitely be back.

Kings Lynn Town 3-2 Scarborough Athletic.

The Linnets just about worth the 3 points.

An excellent first half saw them comfortably 2-0 up.

A not so great second half saw Scarborough well worth a point with an absolute worldy to equalise from Colville only for the captain Clunan to stroke the winner into the bottom corner from just outside the box, sending the home fans wild.

AFC Fylde drawing at Blyth Spartans sees The Linnets back on top spot.

Att: 1180

Next up, Farsley Celtic visit The Walks on Tuesday.

Pollok 6-2 Kirkintilloch Rob Roy

Not exactly random as Kirkintilloch is actually my hometown. However it’s very rare I’ve had the chance to see them play since their ‘temporary’ move to Cumbernauld.

Pollok 4-1 up at Half-Time and unlucky not to get a 7th in the final minute of the game. Rob Roy had a little bit of momentum after pulling one back early in the second half but the result was never in doubt.

Match ticket: £9
Return train ticket: £2.60
Pie and Coke: £2.70
Day out cost: £14.30

Cumbernauld United 1-1 Kilbirnie Ladeside

League leaders visiting strugglers, but the game was much closer than you'd expect. There wasn't much in it in the first half, but the visitors took the lead after a good finish. In the second half they had some chances to score a second, but that never happened. Cumbernauld United kept fighting but didn't manage to finish chances. When the visitors were reduced to 10 men about 15 minutes from the end (second yellow for a defender), the hosts got some more chances and did eventually manage to equalise. Kilbirnie were clearly unhappy with the referee as after the final whistle their players surrounded the referee, which resulted in a straight red for their goalkeeper, I can only assume it's for what he said.

Took in first half of Colony Park v Dyce (HT 1-1, FT 2-2) while in Inverurie for Locos v Brechin in Highland League Cup. They may have gotten a few more of the bumper crowd at Harlaw Park paying to get in if they had shifted the kick-off to 1 pm. Some decent play from both teams and a draw seems fair.

Drumchapel Utd 3 Vale of Clyde 1 in the last 16 of the South Challenge Cup at the Donald Dewar Centre.
Had to be home at a reasonable time so opted for this 2pm kickoff and missed out on ICT's win at Ayr. Nae pies 😱 - was absolutely Hank Marvin, had nothing since my breakfast and a couple of pints in Glasgow, so after paying in, went back up the road to the shop for something to eat.
Vale gave a good account of themselves and equalised with a good strike but the Div1 side were reasonably comfortable. Friendly people as always but an uninspiring place to watch a game and they'll probably be in the prem next season. That's me been at all the WOSL grounds in tier 6&7.

FT.

Kings Lynn Town 1-2 Farsley Celtic

Att: 721

Early 2nd half equaliser saw the Linnets in the ascendancy. A disallowed second goal enraged the home support. The assistant seeming to change his mind after being crowded by the Celtic players. He looked about 15 bless him. Detention for him tomorrow no doubt.

Lynn pressed on for a winner then caught on the break deep into the 5 minutes injury time added on.

AFC Fylde drew 2-2 with Buxton to go top of the league. Not a great night for the Linnets.

Have to say, too many times Lynn wasted opportunities with players taking an extra touch when the first time ball was the play to make. Frustrating for the home fans. Also being instructed to play out from the back by the looks of it. Often they were too slow allowing them to be closed down quickly and getting into trouble when maybe clearing their lines would have been the better option.

A cold, cold, evening. A nice sausage roll and a bovril (of course) helped keep me warm.

Anybody  been to J League games in Japan?  Backpacking it in April/May and wondering how  easy to get ticket and if got any tips about going to a game.

I went to an FC Tokyo game during my own backpacking trip over in that part of the world in 2017. You could get tickets at a variety of newsagent type shops, which I think tends to be what people are advised to do, or at the gate but due to my worry around communicating/reading Japanese I ended up getting a ticket through one of their official online partners - I believe it was Stubhub at the time.

I'd definitely recommend a trip to FC Tokyo to anybody thinking about visiting them. They're not one of the historically big names but the stadium was easy to get to on the subway and there was a good atmosphere with a pretty big supporters section behind one of the goals. Not the best stadium in the world but not the worst either. Tokyo Verde in the second tier play there too.

I found it all to be pretty laidback. I've heard there's a bit of nativism at some clubs, particularly Urawa, but Tokyo didn't seem to have that issue.

Clydebank 1-2 Cumnock

A very poor Bankies performance saw them 2-0 down at the break, but a late penalty set up a frantic finish with Cumnock just getting themselves over the line after nine minutes of stoppage time. Cumnock had three penalties of their own, but only managed to score one. A wildly entertaining game at a freezing Holm Park.

Dunipace 1-0 Camelon

I was in Westfield Park once years ago, before it was "done up" and enjoyed it. Back tonight for the East of Scotland League Cup and hated it. They've turned it into a cage a ruined it completely. I will always stick up for a team using a plastic pitch but I hate cages. Started snowing, and the game was baws. Keech

40/42: Celtic 3-1 Hearts, Premiership, 8/3/23.

Fun going ahead early, but an under strength Hearts were never likely to see it out.

Premiership done for the season, and I’ve now seen every SPFL team play this campaign. Hearts’ opener was the 200th goal I’ve seen this season. Only stenny and Dunfermline to go.

Bonnyrigg Rose 1-1 Forfar Athletic @ New Dundas Park 🌹. cinch SPFL League 2. A pretty scrappy game which came to life late on. Forfar opened the scoring from spot on 72 minutes but substitute Kieran McGachie ⚽ rescued a vital point for the Rose 3 minutes from time. Crowd 744.
