Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Madrid derby tonight at the Bernabau thanks to my Real supporting pal giving me his season ticket whilst out of town. Strange one for me as an Atleti fan in amongst the home fans restricting myself to an inner YASSS when Gimenez put them in front.

Good game all round - some ludicrous refereeing for Correa's sending off, a good performance by Atleti, just unfortunate they couldn't hold on. Good header from Alvaro for the equaliser tbf. The chants of CORRUPTION from the Real fans pretty bizarre too.

How were the pies?

From the sublime to the ridiculous..

Kirkcaldy & Dysart 4 Dunbar United 0.

High flying Dunbar United crashed to the ground today. They weren't at the races against a well organised, strong tackling Kirkcaldy side.

I hadn't been to what was then called Denfield for 20 years (a drab 0-0 draw in the mist against Steelend Vics as I had to ask my mate to remind me) and there's been a good bit of improvement since then. Despite the result I had a good steak pie and a plane came over at one point with a banner to inform us that baby Lafferty is a girl. Some people have more money than sense (Kyle?)

DC United 3-2 Toronto; 25/02/23

Att: 17,397

Very decent game to kick-off the new MLS season in the capital of the land of the free. Wayne Rooney's DC United perhaps just about deserved the win against a Toronto team with two Euro 2020 winners in Insigne and Bernadeschi. DC United scored two late goals to win the game including a winner in the 98th minute. Hibernian legend Victor Palsson provided the night's Scottish link and had a relatively solid game in the DC United defence.

Decent atmosphere provided by the supporters section and there has been a couple of minor updates during the break to what is a cracking little stadium. $29 for the ticket with the obligatory extra $10 of Ticketmaster fees taking it up to $39 for the cheapest seats. $14 for a tin of Heineken, which is seen as something almost exotic round these parts. There's almost nowhere that does hard copies of tickets in the US nowadays in any major sport, which is a shame.

Peebles Rovers 0-0 Newburgh

Strange place, you just walk in, football, cricket and rugby all sharing an area with only mesh fences separating 3rd tier rugby from 8th tier football. Fairly picturesque with the hills and the Hydro as a backdrop mind you .

That said... 100yrs ago it was good enough for the Scottish League!

I admit to being stunned when I realised that. Plenty room and, yes, a wee stand but no real infrastructure whatsoever. Even by 1920s Third Division standards it seemed awfy basic

iirc there was plans for a purpose built football facility a couple of years ago but it got nimbyed. Rovers are limited in what they can do with their current ground on account of it being in a public park & also used being used for cricket in the summer months.

Of course 100 years later they wouldn't get away with this kind of thing, eh FC Edinburgh...

Hearts Women V Hibs Women at Tynecastle for me today.

A pretty awful game if truth be told. Not many chances for either team.  Finished 1-1 after Hibs lead at half time. And then tried to sit on the lead which backfired when Hearts equalised in the 89th minute with a goal headed in from a corner. Because it also doubles as the Capital cup it went straight to penalties which Hearts won 6-5.

Free entry with a free 12 page programme. Almost 12000 tickets were given away but only 7024 turned up. Not sure if some of it was to do with the wrong Kick off time printed on tickets as it got busier nearer 2pm.

First visit to Patties Road for Edinburgh South 0 Luncarty 4.

I’ve been there twice this season to see Edinburgh South, great wee ground. Not a pie aficionado by any means, but they have a few varieties there, really good and fairly priced.

Looks a similar a crowd to when we were there, both times it was around 40 from memory.

FC Copenhagen 1 Aalborg 0.

One of the nicest cities I have ever visited however you are here for football not thoughts on public transport, architecture etc.

A goal that was fired in at close range via a low cross was all that separated the two teams. The start of the game was delayed by eight to ten minutes due to excessive pyrotechnics.

I was there at the Olympics for a game and thought it was a nice ground but there seems to be a curse on the place given recent history!
