Manchester Utd Women 1-3 Chelsea Women

Top of the table clash between the early pace-setters and last year's champions. United hadn't conceded a goal after 5 games this season in the WSL, but Chelsea are different gravy at this level and put them to the sword in front of a record crowd for a the United Women at Leigh Sports Village of over 6,000.

First time at Leigh and it's a lovely little stadium. 12,000 capacity and hosts the women and as well as Man Utd Academy teams and Leigh Leopards (recently renamed from Centurions) in the RL Super League.

The infrastructure into the Leigh itself and the stadium leaves a lot to be desired though. Missed the first 20 mins after being stuck in masses of traffic on the one country road into Leigh and then had to park at a retail park about a mile away from the ground as the official stadium parking was full by the time I got there. Seemed there was plenty in the same boat

Cumnock 2 Pollok 2. Premier League.

If we put aside the fact that Cumnock is not particularly random for me at this stage, given I’ve now seen them four times in little more than a month (and I’m going back to see them at Irvine Meadow on Saturday), this was an absolute belter of a game.

Cumnock took the lead twice, Pollok’s second equaliser was ridiculously good, making their goals against Annan look like tap-ins. He absolutely leathered the ball, pleasingly clipping off the crossbar on the way in. Just a sensationally good goal. There was a camera there, would like to see it again.

Both teams had chances to win that game. Really enjoyable game.

And reader, I did get my bobble hat tonight, the last one they had in stock too. Result!

27/42: Rangers 1-0 Hearts, Premiership, 9/11/2022.

Pretty dull stuff at Ibrox. Hearts came for a 0-0 and defended reasonably enough, but didn't really do enough to earn a point. Had a decent day out and Hearts didn't do as badly as expected, so I suppose a success of sorts.

Only interesting thing was that we couldn't get in to our seats, so we (along with quite a few others) were allowed to just stand and watch the game from the barrier behind the lower section of the away end. Nobody ever came and shifted us, so we just stood there. I'd never done that at Ibrox before.

Finally made it to Buxton.

Hell of a hill to climb to get here, reminds me of home.

National League North..

Buxton v Banbury United.

Pint for £3.00 in the bar and £3.00 for a Hot Dog.

A hybrid pitch which looks perfect.

Buxton fans buzzing at getting Ipswich away in the FA Cup, believe it will be their biggest game to date

Lochore Welfare 1-3 Camelon

Frenetic is the word for this clash in the East First Division. Bit of a last minute decision to come here once it was clear the weather was going to hold. Wouldn't believe it is the middle of November apart from the sun starting to go down at twenty past three it could be September.

Been to a few Camelon games and always found them a great bunch. Better team in this relegation match. Two dugouts that kick every ball and an aged referee struggling to assert any authority whatsoever. Two teams not used to winning games and Camelon did their best to throw this one away after being two nil up and cruising at half time. Weathering the storm an unusually composed finish sealed the game with 15 to go.

Lochore deserve a special mention for their surprisingly agile goalkeeper and serving hot drinks in a real cup. Mr Nilpferd also had a curry pie and highly recommends it. 238e3885dd1520560768bafa782d5a7a.jpgd6bb8d5eeb2540eecf265374b25b0031.jpg26808d1bf6d17dc6eabdf80fbfde97fb.jpg4b37f79ee3ced9752e7485393414d097.jpg00fb9436b498f7cbbc4ff751719e5589.jpg60f2cc15fafbbbed61f8b97f18beb638.jpg

The game started well with both sides trying to play some nice football before Buxton started hitting long balls, as soon as this happened Banbury took over, they scored a nice first goal before a cracking free kick to go in 2-0 up and Buxton already looking out of it.

Second half was more of the same and a well worked third goal was followed by a penalty brilliantly saved by the Buxton keeper only for Banbury to score from the corner.

4-0 to the visitors, 910 at the game including around 100 from Banbury who sang all day, (in the bottom pic.)20221112_164734.thumb.jpg.b34db7b4de50613c02b06725bab73e84.jpg

I will be lumping on Ipswich for the FA Cup match.

Alloa 5 Queen of the south 1 £18 entry. Attendance of 708. Parked around the back at the community centre.
Queen of the south started the better side and went 1 up through Gavin Rielly in the first couple of minutes and looked like they were going to dominate from start to finish. Poor defending from a set piece let Alloa back into it and second half Alloa were more intensive. More poor marking from set pieces and a cross that the keeper should be dealing with all day long seen Alloa take the points in a mad 10 minutes spell.
Managed to get a programme as well, something i noticed a lot of clubs aren’t doing now. Overall a good day out.

Hasty drive to the Creek (Bristol Manor Farm) for Shirehampton v Bristol Telephones in Western League Div 1. £6 prog £1 hot drink £1. After a goalless first half, a 46th min opener as the visiting gk couldn't hold a shot, simple finish. Floodgates opened for a 5-0 victory, with the Phones having two late red cards to seal their fate.20221112_164409.thumb.jpg.0ca1d28175932a8f93d6e4299dacfb99.jpg20221112_154935.thumb.jpg.4f08ee8cdf09937a2e8d337569aad5a0.jpg

Did you see the Stag's head in the club shop?

Visited Buxton a few years ago. They were managed by ex-Hibee Martin McIntosh at the time.

I had a shocking hangover but went up to Arniston v St Andrews.

Not a bad game, I thought St Andrews looked the better team but it could have gone either way. Just as the match appeared to be heading for a draw Saints scored a good winner to please their decent travelling support.

28/42: Morton 2-1 Partick Thistle, Championship, 12/11/22.

This is one I identified from the beginning of the season, mainly because I think it's a great combination of strips plus a tremendous ground to watch a game at. Added bonus of it being a significant game in the promotion battle.

I took along a couple of mates to this one. One is a Rangers fan, so he knew what Cappielow was, but the other is an American lad I worked with years ago who is in Scotland for the weekend. Let's just say that he found Cappielow an eye-opener given that he's used to watching American football and Baseball etc in very corporate environments. He certainly enjoyed it anyway. He kept saying 'There's nothing like this in the States, nothing'.

A decent enough game, and, not for the first time this season I've seen Thistle probably get less from a game than they should. Very little between the teams, but Morton seem to have the bit between their teeth at the moment and got it over the line.

Quick mention for the absolute catastrophe in the gents' toilets at the Norseman pre-match. Anyone who was there will know what I mean. Fucking hell.

Since this week's ICT capitulation wasn't due till 1730, I nipped down to Ayr for a 1330 kickoff in the WOSL Cup at Dam Park Stadium. Whitletts 1 Blantyre 2. One set of Vics propping up the div 1 table, the other in the promotion hunt, and it did show overall. Whitletts did take the lead but overall it could have been more. Lunch was 2 steak pies @ £2.50 and a Bovril @ £1.20. Excellent friendly people at Vics. Lived in Ayr for a year and would have liked to stay a bit longer, but had to get up the road for Doddsy's Disasters FC.
