Helston 2 Falmouth Town 1

A quick return to Helston for the town after being here in the FA cup over the weekend.

Game was very even with Falmouth having the greater chances throughout.

Helston took the lead against the run of play, 50 minutes in, and looked to press home the advantage.

Falmouth found the equaliser after the goalkeeper was only able to parry a shot and was beaten to the second chance.

Would have thought Falmouth, being the better side throughout, would have turned the screw. But, Helston went up the other end directly from the restart and found the winner.

Finished with Falmouth pushing a knackered Helston side all the way through an astonishing ten minutes of additional time

FC Edinburgh 3-2 Stranraer.

Stranraer started off the brighter team and Edinburgh took the lead against the run of play. Stranraer equalised, but a well worked goal from Edinburgh gave them a 2-1 ht lead. Edinburgh more or less dominated the second half and their third goal was from a cracking free kick, the taker completing his hat trick. Stranraer scored a consolation goal late on. Enjoyed the game overall, nice to go to a game as a complete outsider.

Last one on Cornwall for a wee bit.

Penryn Vs Illogan

2-2. Attendance 43 by my count

Close affair with Illogan probably edging it on the night. Penryn took the lead against the run of play after a header, from a corner, struck the post and left the goalkeeper stranded for an easy tap in.

Illogan kept up the tempo and equalised not long after that. Then went 1-2 up on the night with a bit of pinball in the box.

The second half was end to end but a lack of composure and a cracking save from Penryn's number one. Kept the game evenly poised. The equaliser came out of nowhere as a lofted free kick found a free striker to send one across the goal into the net.

The draw a fair result.

9/42: Hearts 0-1 FC Zurich, Europa League Play-off, 25/8.

I'm up to a quite remarkable seven away wins from my nine grounds so far as Hearts come unstuck. The better side till the red card, but that's the way it goes. Tynecastle is obviously tremendous (I'm a Hearts supporter, so bias declared), and I enjoyed what will be a relatively rare visit this season. That said, I'll be back on Sunday.

Bonnyrigg Rose 🌹 0-2 Albion Rovers @ New Dundas Park. The 31 bus 🚌 to Midlothian for last Saturday’s SPFL League 2 fixture. The home side didn’t really get going early on and it was Rovers who opened the scoring after half an hour before adding a 2nd late on. 🧮 Crowd 1057.

Dalkeith Thistle 0 Lochee United 0 HT.
Scottish Cup Preliminary Round.

The Road to Hampden started badly for the Lochee supporters bus, which turned up a good 30 minutes into the game. It's always a gamble pointing a vehicle around the City Bypass outwith the golden quiet hour of 2am-3am (on aleternate Sunday mornings). Lochee may have found this to their cost.

Fortunately their absence left me with a clear run at the pie hut, and I made good on my intention to demolish a steak pie. And another. Absolutely outstanding pies.

Game has been finely balanced so far. Dalkeith had a couple of good chances early on which surprised me as I thought this would be quite one sided.

Whitehill Welfare 1-4 Camelon

Scottish Cup preliminary round.

Here to recomplete the Lowland Legaue without having to entertain Hearts B. Good grief what a game though.

Bad tempered game with many meaty challenges flying in, that's okay though as there were no future World Cup winners on show. Did something happen between the two clubs?

Whitehill apparently missing some players and it did show. Camelon the better team throughout deserved win for the Mariners.b6873783ee34615d89ad9382e203faa4.jpg5631605c72e3aaa2f6bffa886a2859ad.jpg8e65eac01c0a58630adcb70a2181b753.jpg55f5723ef02940e95b5698009dda7aef.jpg

A first visit to Links Park, for Montrose V Kelty Hearts. I wasn't expecting a great game as both teams had only scored 3 goals between them before today. But a superb performance from the home side made in an enjoyable day out. Kelty seemed to have hit the buffers a bit and struggled to get any fluency into their play, despite working hard.

Goals from Waddell, McAllister and Rennie gave Montrose a well deserved and convincing 3-0 win in front of 626 fans.

Just to add. A quite magnificent main stand 😍.

10/42: Dumbarton 2-1 Elgin, League Two, 27/8.

League leaders Dumbarton overcome my home-team curse to come from behind to win. Controversy’s Ally Love scored two second half penalties to win it. Second looked soft to me, but I’ll have a look at the highlights.

Penzance Vs Sticker FC

Lucky for me, a breakdown delayed leaving Cornwall by a few days. So I took the chance to travel to Penzance. The furthest south I'll get for a wee while anyway.

2 all draw and an end to end affair. If either team had a better final ball or a bit composure. It could have been 6 each.

Penzance recently won their first game after 23 consecutive losses and in the past 20 meetings with Sticker FC have lost 18. So all in all, a very good point for the magpies.

With no Cowdenbeath game today (hooray I hear you say?🤔), family took the well trodden path to Peebles from Edinburgh, but this time with the bonus of a match to watch.

Been in the park a dozen times, but never seen a game. Beautiful setting with the river one side and the hills and Peebles Hydro the other way.

It was Peebles Rovers v Tweedmouth Rangers in the Alex Jack cup and the away side won 3-1, Peebles a little unlucky.

Must say I thought the referee was excellent. No linesman at this level of course, but he controlled it brilliantly. He let the players curse and swear, but was quick to bark back at them from time to time, if they were stepping over the mark, he took no crap. Not a young guy, but he seemed to understand the game and tried to let it flow.

I did a crowd count a couple of times, and counted 70 the second time.

Never regret taking in a game there! Lovely setting.

Did you happen to notice whether the Eddleston to Peebles cycle path has opened yet? I usually approach Peebles from the Neidpath end so I haven't been past Eddleston for a while. The cycle path was due to open in the Spring, but got delayed as our infrastructure projects always do.

Sorry mate, didn’t notice anything about that as we drove past.

That’ll be really good for cyclists as that stretch of road between Eddleston and Peebles can’t be that pleasant for cycling when it’s really busy.
