Campfield 1-1 Middlesbrough Dormans (Middlesbrough win 2-4 on pens)

FA Sunday League Cup QF

Campfield of Liverpool are the defending national Sunday League champions but got put out at the quarter final stages this year by the Middlesbrough outfit. Really good game this, evenly matched over the 90 minutes. Goalless until the 87th minute when Middlesbrough scored what everyone thought was the winner. Campfield went straight up the park from kickoff and equalised on 88!

Straight to penalties and the side from the North East dethroned the champions to go on to the semi-finals. Great standard for the level.

Ujpest 2-1 Puskas Akademia

Great weekend away in Budapest with my mates, first time out the UK since pre-covid (since my last trip to Budapest funnily) and another stadium to add to the list. Ticket cost around £6 and pints of Borsodi inside for about £2. Lovely wee stadium but couldn't have been anymore than 1500-2000 in attendance.

Ujpest went into this joint 2nd bottom which is the relegation zone so a big 3 points for them. Puskas on the other hand are 2nd, but this defeat couple with Ferencvaros' win over Kisvarda last night sees them trail the top by 5 points.

Not a great game but Ujpest certainly the better team and thoroughly deserved their win. Puskas took the lead with a good free kick strike in the first half, but Ujpest levelled pretty quickly, and won it 20 minutes from the end with a cracker of a left foot strike right in front of us.

That's the same style over substance design of Man City's mini stadium. Looks great but not that much use when the wind, rain and snow are blowing in.

It was certainly freezing on Saturday once the sun went down. Nice ground though, would love to see it pretty busy and on a warmer day ideally.

Game 2 - FC United of Manchester 10-0 AKS Zly

Didn't follow the North West hoppers games but instead went onto Moston for my second game of the day. FCUM Vs a Polish outfit in the Fenix Trophy. A European Cup of sorts for fan built clubs around the continent. Always going to get different standards of quality in a tournament like this and the lads from Poland weren't much better than a Sunday league team. United 7-0 at half time and even after half an hour were taking the foot off the gas. Passing amongst each other when clear through on goal etc. It was all played in great spirits tbf, the United crowd booing their own team, and cheering on visiting attacks. Chants of "Poland's No1" rang out when the Zly goalie made a good double save. The Polish swapped keepers at half time and the keeper ended up in full kit in the United terrace, downing pints and having his name chanted and pogoing away with the home fans. Good fun afternoon despite the no-contest, it was something different!

1,255 in attendance and the United fans seem to have a Main Stand Vs Terracing good-spirited battle going on amongst themselves. Each having their own songbook and taunting each other throughout the game.

The mrs and i are heading down here on the 16th April, really like the ethos of fc, taking our little guy. They seem like a good bunch, was the food decent and did you get parked easy enough?

Never had any grub, but the bar under the terrace behind the goal was good, lots of different craft ales on tap etc. There was a massive big tuck-shop style stall too with hunners of different sweets, juices etc so the wee man should be ok!

Got parked easy on Lightbowne Road next to the ground, about a 2 minute walk away but I was there a good hour before kick off so not sure how it is closer to 3pm. It's a big long B road and everyone was just parking up the side so should be ok I'd imagine.

Threave Rovers 3-1 Abbey Vale.

What a lovely ground and town this is. A closer game than the scoreline suggests but goals win games.
The blog is attached at the top of the post, give it a read if you can!

Herriot Watt 1-1 Haddington. Free entry to this for some reason and home side did themselves out of cash as there was decent number there. Herriot Watt goal was a cracker and looked like being enough as Haddington rarely threatened but manged an equaliser in injury time.

Lochee United 2-0 Broughty Athletic - Midlands League
Att: ~250 mark = Decent crowd with both Dundee teams playing tomorrow and Monday.

Made it to Thomson Park today for the first time in a while for a decent battle between Lochee Utd and Broughty, thought Broughty had the better of the first half and definitely should have had a penalty, but created very little in terms of out and out chances. In the second half Lochee United were miles ahead and should have buried a couple of great chances, two good goals in the final 15 were deserved, and 2-0 probably was the right result to keep Lochee's slim title challenge going for another week or so.

£3 for a very good Steak Pie and a Tea is also exceptional value.

Vale of Leven 1 Spartans 1 HT.

Wee trip to Balmaha before the game. Tried to persuade Tom Weir to come along to the game with me, but he wasn't for coming.

Decent game so far, Vale sticking at it.

Many moons ago I went with a hillwalking mate to see Tom Weir at the Edinburgh Book Festival. We came across him trying to cross Charlotte Square, complete with daypack and tammy. He was absolutely tiny and we helped him across as he looked terrified of the traffic.
Hoping to visit Vale next season and catch up with @Craig the Hunter from the glory days at Whitehill.

Kilwinning Rangers 0 Clydebank 1. Took advantage of Scotrail's £12 offer to finally visit the Buffs new park. Sadly missed ICT's first win in over a decade but at least I was home for my tea.IMG_7136.JPG.3330a81d4e570005dddf6003e37282cc.JPG
