Rare chance for me to get to a game on foot, a gentle five minute stroll from home.

One nil to Penicuik at HT.

I had Att c20 plus several sheep. Plus a donkey braying somewhere.

Hotspur conceding a penalty and being reduced to 10 men right after half time effectively ended the contest.

A trip to Mariners Park for South Shields 1 FC Utd of Manchester 1 in the Northern Premier League in front of a crowd of just over 2300. Draw fair result and the new stand coming along nicely.Just by the Barbour factory outlet and a 5 minute walk from Bede metro station if anyone ever in the area.

Cumbernauld Colts 4-4 Gretna 2008 in the Lowland League tonight.

Gretna came back from 4-1 down to draw. Good night's entertainment, both sides were shocking at the back, could easily have been more than the eight goals we got.

I live a 5 minute walk from Broadwood and was going to take this game in last week but by the time I got home from work and had dinner, I couldn’t be arsed. Was absolutely seething when I saw the score!

Random games you didn’t go to thread for this pish, etc.

After our game at Downfield Park I went down the road to North End Park. I managed to catch most of the second half of Dundee United Women 2-10 Hibs Women which finished under the lights.

I was nearly at the same games as you. It was a choice between that double-header, or St James and Broughty double-header, and I only chose the latter because they're very slightly closer together.

I caught the first half at St James, I was impressed by the technique and the commitment to play football of the home side's midfield. It was 0-0 when I left and I was surprised to see Brechin Vics went on to win 2-0. St James lacked composure in front of goal and I suppose that must have told. A very mice wee place to watch football and an entertaining team. Attendance 67.

I then zipped over to Broughty Athletic v Scone Thistle. It was 2-1 when I arrived and 10-1 when I left. I don't know why, but in my mind Broughty are one of the bigger sides in the area, so I was surprised that there were only 68 folk watching and that the ground was so unimpressive. Maybe it's just me, but I hate when they leave the wee goals around a 3G pitch and here was probably the worst example I've seen. There's a nice new shed providing cover, but slap bang in front of it they've stored a big bloody goal. You can watch through the fence at several points around the ground. This doesn't feel like a place destined for the Highland League any time soon.

Broughty didn't have to be all that good to score 10, Scone's defending was pretty appalling. There were some nice goals though and some pleasingly emphatic finishes.

Last minute decision to head to Edinburgh City 2-0 Elgin City. Whirlwind start to game with City going 2-0 up after 7 minutes. Elgin played some nice football but do not think they managed a shot on target.

Firm believer that the football is just the thing that you hang the rest of your day around.

So today I ventured south to that England. Had a pleasant wee two hour stroll around the beaches and cliffs of Holy Island.

Now having a wee pint prior to the Tweedmouth Rangers v Thornton Hibs classic.

Going to find the famous Stanks later.

Not a bad day out so far!

Bonus: I've avoided the Old Firm game entirely. Result.

That's how it's done. When I went down there for a cup tie with Linlithgow Rose the rest of the family came too. We met up after the game and walked the pilgrim's route across the sands to Lindisfarne. I can't recommend that walk highly enough.

Tweedmouth are a really impressive club and the ground keeps coming on in leaps and bounds.

When I said this would be a classic, I wasn't expecting it to be 6-5 to Thornton Hibs!

A game that had much to like about it, despite it being played out to an incessant soundtrack provided by some guy in his back garden with a karaoke machine.

Tweedmouth equalised in injury time to make it 4-4 after 90, which wasn't really warranted. Thornton were the better side, and Tweedmouth never led the tie.

Thornton engaging in some marvellous time wasting tactics as they ran the game down in extra time, including a penchant for leathering the ball out the park into the woods.

Nice chance to wander around Shielfield as well. IMG_20210829_151738.jpg

Tweedmouth Rangers 5-6 Thornton Hibs, after extra time

A nice trip down to Berwick and I made a proper day out of it. I met a friend of mine who stays near Berwick, we had a nice catch up and some lovely chats with people before and during the game. The ground is lovely. They really have done a lot of work. I spoke to some of the Tweedmouth committee. They are a very friendly club and the volunteers have a lot of enthusiasm.

The game was spectacular. Some excellent goals. Thornton Hibs took a 1-4 lead, but I thought that was really harsh on Tweedmouth. They did well to fight back to 4-4 and take the game to extra time. In extra time Thornton Hibs just had that bit more. Overall an excellent day out.
