Olimpija 2-2 Celje.

Definitely two points dropped for Olimpija as they dominated the game and played the last twenty minutes against ten men.

A really nice stadium but out on the edge of town and a pretty poor attendance.

The European Volleyball Championships were on next door so I popped over to give that a watch after the game, making it the second time I've seen Finland play Belarus. Did a football treble there last season. Karlsruhe on Saturday afternoon, jumped on a train and straight to Strasbourg to see them play in the evening. The following day it was lower league stuff to see Schiltigheim play. Strasbourg is a superb city to stay and to watch footy.

Strasbourg is a brilliant city and serves as a good base to visit plenty of teams (Basel, Freiburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Standard Liege, Nancy, Metz to name but a few). What did you make of the Schiltigheim game?

Half of Colony Park v Longside in the, deep breath, Quest Engineering Inter Regional Cup First Round North.

Left at half time to go next door to the Inverurie Locos v Wick Academy Scottish Cup tie.

Longside went in 1-0 up at half time thanks to a stiff breeze, to point where their keeper nearly scored with a throw out. IMG_20190921_141806.jpegIMG_20190921_143146.jpegIMG_20190921_140442.jpegIMG_20190921_140016.jpeg

Inverurie Locos 0 Wick Academy 2 HT. Wick are pretty comfortable here. (Edit: Locos won 3-2. My excellence at reading football games is renowned.)

Tidy ground this. Reminds me a bit of Linlithgow. Modern stand, covered terrace, social club behind one goal, absolutley enormous Blade Runner style concrete plant behind the other. (OK three out of four.)IMG_20190921_135836.thumb.jpeg.a52fdd93a70ad2f7efe775f46ac54181.jpegIMG_20190921_150025.jpeg.35e660032a7159ffbde76381550acc97.jpegIMG_20190921_153634.jpeg.4e009041c5c3ad2cc2873abc370c1141.jpegIMG_20190921_151050.jpeg.ac9098121d7bda7cce1fbae3cfb5699b.jpeg

Chester 3-3 Leamington in the National League North. Good ground and decent atmosphere. 20190928_165614.jpeg20190928_140317.jpeg20190928_165634.jpeg

Great wee ground and club Ross. My mate who follows Liverpool helps out with their media team when he can try usually and get there once a season.

Blantyre Victoria 2-0 Muirkirk

Macron Scottish Junior Cup Round 2

Castle Park, Blantyre

Two first half goals saw the West Championship side beat the West League Two club from East Ayrshire. Should really have been 6 or 7 as Blantyre squandered numerous chances along with around 3 efforts being chopped off for various offences & Muirkirk played large part of 2nd half with 10 after a straight red for a wild studs up lunge.

Heard Irvine Vics might be getting the ground sold from under their feet so decided to head along on Saturday. Knocked out 0-3 by Kello Rovers in the Junior Cup. Met the Vics fans 2 or 3 times at away games but never been at Viccy Park. Right friendly bunch.

Villa Jogoo vs Vipers SC in the Ugandan Premier League!

Two of the countries top teams slugging it out in the national stadium in front of 5000-odd people. Villa (from Kampala) used to be the dominant force in Ugandan football but have dipped a bit in recent years.

This ticked a lot of boxes of what I was expecting from African football: crazy traffic (got there 20 mins late, with hundreds of folk still outside the ground), flares, a huge thunderstorm, an oompah band leading the chants in the ultras section with singing throughout, a huge guy with his tap aff blasting dance music from a sound system he was wearing on his head a few rows behind me, and a really fun, welcoming atmosphere - I’m pretty sure I was the only ‘mzungu’ in the stadium and I don’t think I’ve ever been so papped!

The photos I took don’t do it justice - pretty much everyone was in the same stand as me. Oh, and the game was a dire 0-0 draw, and I’d have fancied a Scottish League 2 side over either of them, but that hardly mattered. Loved it - a great evening out.
