Also with Scott Robertson saying he wants to win the World Cup with two different countries(NZ and another) the SRU should do all they can to get him before someone else does

To my utter disgust as a Crusaders fan, he's going to end up taking over England after the World Cup next year isn't he....

A simply horrendous read that deserves much more focus. Every paragraph gets worse and the SRU come out of that story very badly.

The allegations on player welfare and indeed the relationship between the SRU, players and family doesn't sound great.

Aside from the welfare, reading the family saying that the players were asked not to contact the family, the tributes were wound back and that a shirt the IRFU gave for the family didn't reaching them are frankly astounding.

Franco Smith is the new Glasgow Head Coach

A bit surprised by a lot of the negativity surrounding this (though probably shouldn't be).

A bok who has coached in super rugby, recently in the six nations and with a focus on bringing through youth players. Italy's youth system/domestic league which he was just in charge of seems to be well in front of us right now. Were Glasgow supporters really expecting Scott Robinson or Stuart Lancaster?

I thought it was a reasonable appointment tbh. He has a good record despite the teams he's been with, and, as you say, is very good with developing younger players.

A lot of the negativity I've seen is the knee-jerk "Well he's come from Italy" pish.

Fans, in general, are morons. I fully include myself in that, btw. Remember it's not that long ago that Dave Rennie was being called pish in some quarters, because, despite having his budget cut and losing his best players, he didn't win every game available

Is there a lot of negativity around this? I've seem Tom English and other rugby jounos say it but not actually seen much on channels I follow.

I can see why it's slightly uninspiring name and record wise and not great to be papped sideways by Italy. The Cheetahs were fair in the Pro14 and it is a better appointment than Wilson.

Its probably due to him not being Blackadder or some of the other names being banded about.

Not sure as a headcoach (as I hadnt heard of him before coming over to Italy), but given that Italy are streets ahead in developing young players getting his input cant be a bad thing.

Was he in charge at Benetton when they were decent?

I think Blackadder is one living off his past reputation/the fact he was crusader's boss (though they never actually won anything under him?).

From what I remember when he was Italy coach, they did get pumped quite a lot but he basically blooded half the current team. I can see why he'd be uninspiring from the Italian spell, but realistically, I can't think of many other coaches with super rugby/international experience who are available or would go to Glasgow as they are currently.

He was Treviso coach for their first season or two in the Pro12 so weren't great at that point but still finished 7th in their second season. The Cheetahs were decent as well.

I agree on Blackadder, I thought he was living off his name as a player more than his coaching abilities. Seems to have done OK without ever setting the heather on fire.

7th is a decent probably finished above Glasgow and Edinburgh as we were woefully at the start of the Pro 12

Glasgow were very decent at the start of the Pro12 as it was Townsend's first 2 years. They lost away to Leinster in the Semi Finals by 4 points and 2 points.

Treviso finished ahead of Edinburgh in the first 2 seasons.
