The problem Scotland have is that we never seem likely to score from pick and go's on the goal line. If it was NZ, Ireland, SA, France, England and even Wales or Argentina you expect them to get at least 1, if not 2 or 3 tries from those opportunities on the goal line, yet Scotland just cough up the ball. Until we start taking those we wont be beating the top teams regularly.

Yes we play some brilliant rugby and score great tries, but we are still missing the basics

Watson and Sutherland out due to injury. Calum Hunter-Hill has been called up

So what happened to Christie, Bayliss and the likes?  Not that it matters much, but Townsend fair loves giving folk two call ups every three years.

When we have scored recently like the try in Paris at the death or a few in Argentina it's been down to moving it off 9.

When the forwards play it so slowly you can guarantee we won't score. When you look at the winning NZ try the ball is very close to the edge of the ruck, better teams know to pile men into the ruck on the goal line because a defender lying on the line is better than a defender on his feet behind it.

Hunter-Hill is a lock so we presumably have enough back row cover with Ritchie, Fagerson, Dempsey and Crosbie (who i'd like to see start).

Townsend's management of some players is terrible though. Guys like Hutchinson, Christie and Bayliss have all hurt their club prospects by signing up for us and then get cold shouldered. Crosbie and Bradbury getting bumped out the squad for the very average at Test level Dempsey. Tuipulto seems to be untouchable, it makes zero sense.

Can someone with more Rugby knowledge than me, explain why it seems Scotland give up more penalties than anyone else, when we have possession at the breakdown.

What do we do differently from everyone else?

Think I counted 5 times we gave away a penalty with the ball, normally in good positions too.
