As for the £70,000 sanction that World Rugby's independent disputes committee handed out in its lacerating judgement of last week, that money will be handed over by Murrayfield. Again, there are nuances that illustrate how hard-fought this battle was. World Rugby's disputes committee has called it a fine. Scottish Rugby is calling it a donation. World Rugby's committee wanted the money to go directly to the Typhoon Hagibis disaster relief fund. The SRU is instead giving it directly to World Rugby, who will presumably pass it on to the disaster fund. There's a subtlety here. Some might call it a pettiness, but it matters to the SRU. In the days leading up to Typhoon Hagibis - a horror that would kill 89 people - World Rugby accused the SRU of insensitivity in its campaign to get the Japan versus Scotland game played. In its verdict last week the disputes committee firmly backed that view. The SRU was incensed at that interpretation and felt that if it gave the £70,000 to the disaster fund then it could be interpreted as accepting it had been guilty of insensitivity towards the victims of Hagibis and was now trying to make amends. It wants the £70,000 to go to the disaster fund, but it is also thinking of what that might look like. This might bring this business to a close but the bitterness remains. Many of the 'big' teams are only getting players back into the fold just now, and some are still waiting (as is the case with Sale and Faf de Klerk). Edinburgh away to Agen tonight. Agen are second bottom of the Top 14, but as ever with French clubs will be tough to beat at home. Edinburgh seem in decent form though and their European run last year may stand them in good stead. Glasgow at home to Sale tomorrow. How are Glasgow playing ? They seem to be searching for form, so who knows what we'll get ? Sale, like almost every Premiership club, have won 2 and lost 2 of their first 4 games. Think Embra have enough experience to win it. Won't be easy for Glasgow at all, Sale have some very good players. Price is seemingly back and Jonny aside I think all the top players are available. In recent seasons they've improved their form, i.e. last season was an all-French final and before that Stade Francais beat Gloucester at Murrayfield. However, it's traditionally the bigger teams who take the tournament seriously. The less fancied teams rest players and focus on the Top 14 so they can stay up or get the Champs Cup. I'd expect Edinburgh to blast Agen and Bordeaux at Murrayfield and find a way to get a couple of wins with an experienced squad in France. honestly united Posted November 15, 2019 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Although Agen are 2nd bottom, they are only 5 points off of 3rd (Bordeaux and Lyon have a big gap at the top, Stade Francais are 7 points adrift at the bottom but 5 points between 3rd and 13th!!), none the less Im hopefully of an Embra win as usually the French rest there best players in the Challenge Cup to focus on the league (as normally its the clubs in the bottom half of the league in hte challenge cup and staying up is much more important than progressing in the cup). However if they do make it hte quarters, and they are safe in the top half of the league they start to take it more seriously. Not sure how Sales are doing at the moment, but Glasgow have been absolutely dire. The return of hte internationals, along with 2 wins against the worst 2 teams in the league in the Kings and Zebre has seen a definite and much needed improvement in form so will be interesting to see how that translates when facing a decent team. We always have a wee bit of an inferiority complex against English teams, but apart from Saracens they've pretty much been cannon fodder in this competition over the last few years. I looked at the Sale team, and it's not terrible, but it's missing most of their stars and I would say we match up better in most positions. In saying that, this isn't a great Glasgow side.
