That was fucking brilliant.

Glasgow really fronted up- Wilson, Gordon and Fagerson totally outplayed the Embra back row, and we just punished them every time we had a chance. Glorious.

On one hand, it would have been nice for Embra to make the Euro playoff, but on the other, it’s their own fault, so f**k them.

2 home games left hopefully!

If Russell was a slightly better kicker you'd be totally happy with Horne and Price for the world cup. Shields looks good as well, and apparently there is another hotshot number 9 coming through the u18s as well. Good stuff.

Russell is a superb kicker- eg semi final v Ulster. He is excellent off the tee, it’s the touch kicking that he invariably f*cks up once a game. Laidlaw wouldn’t have got near Townsend’s Glasgow team and for all his merits should be behind price and Horne for the RWC.

It's good that the game actually now has a bit of a derby feel. I was always a bit jealous of the way the Welsh and Irish teams always had that and we didn't really. Since Cockerill came in for Edinburgh though there has been far more edge to these games, from the players and fans. I think the SRU trying to f**k over Glasgow and move this game to Murrayfield probably helped as well.

Edinburgh looked done. Just worn out, lethargic and jaded. Glasgow looked fresh, energetic and motivated. Great end to the season from Glasgow, hoping they have hit form at the right time and even if they don't win it, be great for Scotland to have a home final.

Thought Mike Adamson didn't have his finest game either, some bizarre and inconsistent calls that just frustrated both teams.

RO14 Rugby can confirm the refereeing panel that will be in place for the Guinness PRO14 Final Series which kicks off this Saturday and runs up to the Championship showpiece game at Celtic Park on May 25.

A squad of 11 match officials, headed up by international referees Nigel Owens and Johnny Lacey, have been selected and held a two-day training camp at the WRU’s High Performance Centre outside Cardiff last week.

The panel includes referees from Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales and contains some of the Championship’s most experienced officials:

  • Nigel Owens (WRU)
  • Ben Whitehouse (WRU)
  • Ian Davies (WRU)
  • Daniel Jones (WRU)
  • Johnny Lacey (IRFU)
  • Andrew Brace (IRFU)
  • Frank Murphy (IRFU)
  • Sean Gallagher (IRFU)
  • George Clancy (IRFU)
  • Marius Mitrea (FIR)
  • Mike Adamson (SRU)

Also last week the head of refereeing was talking about more neutral refs for pro 14 games.

PRO14 Rugby can also confirm the Quarter-Final appointments for this weekend:

Saturday, May 4

Munster Rugby v Benetton Rugby – KO 15.00

Referee: Nigel Owens (WRU)

AR1: Ben Whitehouse (WRU), AR2: Dan Jones (WRU)

TMO: Ian Davies (WRU)

Ulster Rugby v Connacht Rugby – KO 17.35

Referee: Andrew Brace (IRFU)

AR1: John Lacey (IRFU), AR2: George Clancy (IRFU)

TMO: Olly Hodges (IRFU)

And with this quote today expect to have Lacey or Clancy in charge of the final.

Quote

he appointments were chosen by the selection committee, directed by Greg Garner, Elite Referee Manager for PRO14 Rugby, and made up of referee managers from the competing unions across the Guinness PRO14.

PRO14 Rugby can also confirm that the overriding criteria for selection during the Guinness PRO14 Final Series will be performance and capability.

Speaking about the match officials chosen for the Guinness PRO14 Final Series, Greg Garner said: “Our analysis and grading of our referees has improved greatly and along with the referee managers from our unions we have worked hard to remove subjectivity from our review and selection process. We have a clear picture of who our best performing officials are and they have earned the right to be involved in the biggest games of the season.

“With so much at stake in these games it is vital that we put the best referees in charge and that they are leading a team of four that includes the Assistant Referees and TMO. The support of the team was a key point of our recent camp and the guys are fully aware that this is the best way to ensure the right calls.”

Since when has he been "Johnny" Lacey?

Owens should be on the final. Apart from him being the best around, it surely has to be a neutral ref. The Welsh are the only country guaranteed not to have a finalist, and he's also not involved in the European finals.

The Irish refs should only get a look in if it's a Glasgow-Benetton final. That would require Treviso winning in Limerick and Dublin in successive games. While it would be utterly glorious, it's also massively unlikely.

Quins v Leicester tonight should be entertaining, if only for the battle of the wallopers between Ellis Genge and Kyle Sinckler.

Both of them are outwalloped by all-round top lad*, Joe Marler. Nevertheless, Quins won - lovely stuff.

*except when he plays for England.

Benetton 10-3 up at HT, with a try in the corner right on it.

Would be brilliant if they could see it out!

It would. I think they've been good. Defended well and look dangerous on the rare occasion they have the ball. It helps that it's Owens reffing as well. That wee linesman wanting to check a knock on at the try that he didn't see because "Peter" told him about it shows what these teams are usually up against when they play Irish teams away.
