The defence has been well below the required standard all season. That can't just be down to individuals, given that Glasgow and especially Edinburgh are fairly solid in that area. Guys like Skinner and Maitland are coming into that from 2 of the best defensive teams in Europe. There must be an issue with the system or the way it's being implemented.

In attack, they have the same frailty that Glasgow have, in that they keep trying to force it wide rather than get the hard work done to earn that right. You don't get away with it at top club level, and certainly not in an international.  That one has to go more on the players - you can't imagine the coaches are saying "Go wide no matter what". There is an issue there in identifying when it is on, and executing to the appropriate level.

When Scotland get it right, it can be stunning, but there are real issues at the moment. The lack of an absolute monster ball carrier doesn't help. Every other top team has one, so we need to be looking at developing one somehow, but that is a longer term issue.
