peasy23
Laird finished 3rd in the Barracuda. Alex Noren was runner up after his last minute trip across the Atlantic, so at least it was worth his while.I sacked it when they still had about 6 holes left. It's a great result for Laird as it lifts him to 98th on the FedEx and all but guarantees him his card for next year.
SandyCromarty
Nice wee lift on Tommy Fleetwood yesterday, always worth an e/w.
Marlo Stanfield
Rumours are that Smith and Leishman will be joining Adam Scott at LIV as an Australian team after the Presidents Cup and Fed Ex playoffs, one last decent payday from the PGA. They're also desperate for Matsuyama to join because him and a couple of the up and coming young Japanese would ensure that virtually everyone in Japan would be watching LIV instead of the PGA.

The chat on SSN this morning is that Matsuyama has been offered 350-400m to join. The “experts” seem to think there will be a mass exodus after the FedEx and that the PGA Tour may be forced into trying to work out some sort of deal to co exist with LIV. John Lambies Doos
Smith has the benefit of having a 5 year exemption for all the majors, I'm not sure any of them will change their entry criteria, bit will just rely on the LIV guys sliding down the OWGR and not qualifying.LIV are also getting close to the point where they either need to increase from 48 to 54 players, or they start to shed some bodies. Harding said at the Scottish last week that he hadn't signed a contract with LIV. There has to be a real fear though that with the majors done for the year then a fresh spate of defections could follow.Agree, some of the early names were low brow just to increase numbers. Will be good to see the postman punted and watch him come crawling back.

I think it's all going to come down to the OWGR points. If LIV can't get those, then it'll just remain a sideshow, even more so if the big 5 of Rahm, Rory, Scheffler, JT and Spieth continue on the PGA.
lichtie23
Rumours that if Stenson does jump ship and gets stripped of the captaincy it will be Thomas Bjorn taking over.
Marlo Stanfield
The Stenson stuff is bad. No one is or isn't watching LIV because Henrik Stenson is playing. It's being done out of pure spite to try and wreck and disrupt the Ryder Cup.

He's already a multi-millionaire - imagine being known as the guy who's career effectively ended with a stripping of the Ryder Cup captaincy for basically being a greedy c**t. Norman comes across as a pound-shop Donald Trump these days. Absolute c**t of a man.
EvilScotsman
Away from the LIV circus and back to "why golf is amazing", I'm playing my first competitive golf in 20 years next weekend, in a 2 day Stableford event at Goswick. Currently, the excitement and anticipation is currently edging out the absolute fear of shanking the opening tee shot, but I fully expect that to have reversed by the time I get there!

Mark Connolly
Played this morning, and as we walked off the 18th green, it was 28 degrees. Definitely the hottest I've ever been on a golf course in Scotland, yet my putter somehow managed to remain frozen solid
peasy23
I think it's all going to come down to the OWGR points. If LIV can't get those, then it'll just remain a sideshow, even more so if the big 5 of Rahm, Rory, Scheffler, JT and Spieth continue on the PGA. LIV at present hardly meets any of the OWGR criteria, size of field and number of events being the main 2. They are supposed to fulfil all the criteria for 12 months before they would be accepted on to the OWGR. They are planning an increase to the minimum 14 events next year, but if the owgr rules are applied to the letter then it would be 2024 before they would get ranking points even if they change the other stuff.
peasy23
Worth remembering that Stenson got absolutely rinsed by Allen Stanford's ponzi scheme, rumours were he lost about 8 million. LIV will no doubt be handing it back to him.

Yeah, it's going to be tough for them unless money talks and the OWGR board makes exceptions for them. Unlikely as Slumbers, Monahan and Pelley all sit on it. Even if they are allocated points next year, the strength of field will be low as the original player's rankings will have cratered by having only a couple of appearances in ranking tournaments in like 9 odd months. Plus there'll be automatic deductions for only 54 holes and the invitational aspect of it. They'd need a load of top 30 guys to join at that time to try and keep the strength of field above say an average DP World Tour event. My gut feeling is that the Masters will carry on as per and use their current criteria, The US and The Open likewise, with qualifying open to all. Unsure about the USPGA. The OWGR will stick to the rules and they'll get the ranking points after they meet the criteria for 12 months. This will f**k the Westwoods and Poulters but the DJs and Brysons will be fine. That's if it doesn't get settled in the courts...

It's only a handful of guys who have long term exemptions for some of the majors. It would be incredibly petty imo if they stopped those exemptions, it's not as if the majority will get anywhere near troubling the engraver.Poulter and Westwood put a temporary halt to their slide down the rankings by picking up points at the Open. Others like Garcia, Grace, Oosthuizen all continue to slide.
alta-pete
In other news, I had cause to be in Auchterarder today and I see the Senior Open is on this weekend. If the weather holds it strikes me it could hold the potential of a decent day out. Anybody been before? A decent standard of competition or just a pitch and putt jolly for the auld yins?

It'll be interesting to see who jumps now major season is over and then after the FedEx playoffs. Loads of rumours flying about, but much of that is deliberate to keep it in the news and to sow discontent.

On the other it would be fucking hilarious if Poulter, Westwood etc ended up with nowhere to play.

He joins The Gammons alongside Westwood and Poulter.
