He hit a couple of good shots down the first to get McGinley's hopes up but as soon as he missed the putt a round like this was almost inevitable.
It's getting to the point where he should barely even be considered a contender these days.
If he ends up level par today then it's not a bad round in isolation, but in the context of the tournament when the guys around you are 3 or 4 under then it's not much good.

Bob MacIntyre stays at 43rd spot on the OWGR.

Morikawa is up to 4th, less than 2 years since turning pro and in just 42 tourneys.

I see McIntyre is in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week - that all helps to retain a top 50 place prior to the end of month and Masters cut-off

Good stuff.

For as well as MacIntyre has done so far, it's worth remembering that Hovland and Morikawa are both around the same age as him. What Hovland has achieved is fantastic but Morikawa has been incredible.

Bob's next two weeks are the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill and now confirmed as being in the field for The Players at Sawgrass.

My mates and I used to have discussions about what the ones to win (and play in tbh) really were. Those two would definitely be in there.

My list would be:

Ryder Cup
The Open
The Masters
US Open
US PGA
Scottish Open (as a Scotsman, substitute for the player's national Open as a non-US player, or major event in their state for a US player)
The Players
Bay Hill (Arnold's tournament)
The Memorial (Jack's tournament)
PGA at Wentworth
WGC Matchplay
AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach
Dubai Desert Classic

The Phoenix Open (for the 16th alone) and the Alfred Dunhill Links would be there or thereabouts as well. Decent career if you do well in those competitions.

Huge difference between being an amateur in the US college system and coming through in Europe. I know Robert did a year at McNeese but it's nowhere near the same as doing the full 4 years like Hovland and Morikawa both did, and at universities with massively funded sports programmes. They were effectively pro and would have been able to practice and play in a completely different manner to Bob, who had to turn pro earlier to try and make money and get his full tour card.

Shot 69 on Sunday. -3. 6 birdies and 3 bogeys, missed 2 or 3 very good chances apart from the 6 birdies. Course is maybe playing a couple of hundred yards shorter than it normally does off the yellow tees but I'd say it's still well over 5,500 yards so not too shabby playing off of 5.

**Fantasy Golf Week 8**

(long)Iron(s)Man

In a week that may be the 1st in the post Tiger era after the worrying events earlier in California, Collin Morikawa staked his claim to be his successor after a peerless display of iron play reminiscent of the Cat in his prime. He now ranks alongside Woods as the only pair to claim both a Major and a WGC before the age of 25. He left Hovland, Koepka and Scheffler in his wake, but those 3 will take heart that they coped well with the difficult green complexes at The Concession  in the run up to the Masters. It proved to be a popular venue, so let's hope we see more of it in the future. An emotional Brandon Grace won the battle of the jobbers in Puerto Rico.

We have a new leader this week. Morikawa's win propels @die hard doonhamer to the top of the rankings, in what is threatening to become a two horse race. The chasing pack have bunched up behind after a poor week for a couple of teams.

We head to Arnie's place next for the great man's Invitational at the deceptively named Bay Hill. A favoured tour stop for many years, it's a typical PGA Florida course. Flat, long, with raised greens, Bermuda grass, sand and plenty water. Usually one of the toughest venues on tour, last years winner Tyrrell Hatton was one of only 4 to finish under par and it tends to favour non Americans, only 2 Yanks have won here since 2006. A stones throw from Disneyland, this this is no Mickey mouse test (see what I did there) and a nice wee addition to anyone's CV. A top class field will all be looking to slip on the coveted *checks notes* red cardigan.
