 A point I always think of too. TV would be unbearable with 24-7 programs of the standard of Scotsport SPL and North Tonight.

I voted to give the Scottish Government more powers to either show them up or let them see what they can do with more power. I certainly wouldn't vote for idependence if given the choice. The SNPs best hope is the Tories gain control at Westminster and it goes back to what it was like under Thatcher.

The SNP were known as the Tartan Tories back then <_<

Without a doubt - I'd vote independance. For my future and my little boys future, this is an important decision. But Indepedance is the only way we will grow strongly as a nation. All you need to do is look at the growing confidence in our Scottish Government and the great job they're doing just now. Once we're independant we'll become a bigger and better nation and will be able to contribute more to Europe than we do currently.

If Ireland can do, why can't we? Albeit I'd prefer to remain part of the commonwealth and have the Queen as head of State.

Dont see whats so funny, its possibly the first ever Duff Man post that The Gray Ghost has agreed with. The Gray Ghost would also like to see Scotland independent in Europe, taking a strong role in the commonwealth, and retaining the Queen as head of state.

Eww, agreeing with Duff Man. The Gray Ghost feels unclean now. :(

The Gray Ghost could make some sort of Vauxhall Zafira related comment here, but out of common decency is choosing not to.

Well, it certainly was a departure in the world of party election broadcasts anyway. 'Grow as a nation'?

"Vote SNP because we will reclaim land from the sea"

Whilst I am not opposed to the monarchy whilst in the uk I fell Scotland would be more suited to being a republic. We may as well be an example of democracy, in comparason to the UK doing away with a monarchy, the partly-appointed house of lords and the archaic first past the post voting system. If we are to trully be independant in Europe we must take a continental attitude, become a modern liberal democracy, embarce the Euro and other such benificial european policies.

Must...resist...enquiry....about when she pops out in the Zafira to go shopping..

Also, when you say "drive", do you actually mean "look over the bits longingly as they lie scattered on the garage floor"?

There is nothing wrong with being what is defined as 'conservative'. It is still a poisoned word in Scotland because of the way the London Thatcher mafia destroyed Scotland's heavy industry (using the oil money to pay for 3m+ to be on the dole) to defeat the unions back in the early 80's.

Someone mentioned the head of population thing about Scotland getting more. This is a red herring. Just because the majority of England is ALSO a shithole - to the greater glory of the home counties and London - it doesn't mean Scotland should continue down this line. I voted for independence because as the majority of England also knows London doesn't give a shit about them or us. Even today we have Labour in Scotland showing their cards - the tactic being to push for a quick referendum before the current Government has a chance to expose more inequalities in the current system. They aren't interested in whats best for Scotland, they're playing the unionist card to try and stop things now and keep the status quo to preserve themselves.

If Scotland did break away the SNP would be marginalised and the people in the SNP would have to realign themselves to the mainstream cliques of politics. The SNP tories would become tories, the SNP socialists would be the Labour party etc. This thing about an 'SNP Government' is pure pish. You get your freedom and you then form a political system.

Thats my tuppence worth anyhow.

Sounds lovely, specially the Euro bit! Mon the Euro! :D However, nothing wrong with keeping the Queen as a figurehead. She might be useful for waving at people, making all the state visits that we dont want politicians to do, and generally doing ceremonial shit!

President Salmond, Alexander, Nipple Stevens? bloody hell. I'd rather have the Queen and big Phil as head of state than any of those nonentities.

Maybe there should be a referandum about what kind of state scotland would be if independance was acchieved such as the one carried out in Italy after the second world war, which got rid of the monarchy there.

What about all the talented scottish politicians currently in westminster. Would they not command a place in Hollyrood in an independant scotland. Assuming the scottish politicians in westminster are of a higher caliber than those currently in Hollyrood.

Boom-Tish, as in republic/constitutional monarchy. I think the 'what will scotland be like after independance should this happen?' question is just one peoples word against another and cannot be fully proved either way...

... one thing I think it is important to remember is why Scotland joined the Union... It was bankrupt ;)

The unionists wouldnt like that, they object to multiple question referendums. The Gray Ghost is of the opinion that the referendum would be cool in the format of a multiple choice quiz. Something like:

1. What is your vote for the future of Scotland (rank in order of preference)?

Independence _

More Powers _

Status Quo _

Less Powers _

Return to Westminster _

Mass Suicide_

2. In an independent country, would you like a Monarchy? Y/N

3a. If No to Q2, would you like to see the Monarchy horribly killed? Y/N

3b. If Yes to Q2, would you like to see the Monarchy take proper control of the country? Y/N

4. Who would you like to vote for in the next election (rank in order of preference)?

SNP _

Libs _

Lab _

Tor _

Grns_

None _

5. Would you like to be in the Euro? Y/N

6. Would you like to see a Scottish Military established if independence was the winning vote? Y/N

That would answer everything in one go and save the need for more pointless referendums!

which makes bailing out because we see a short term gain all the more disgusting.

That would be too hard for the Scottish electorate, who proved how thick they all were at the last lot of elections up here.

I remember at a count once I was shown the spoiled papers and you and your opponents get to sift through them and decide if they are genuinely spoiled. The best one was a huge "Bob Smith" is a fucking w****r and then they had drawn a giant cock and balls on the ballot paper. Superb. "bob" was the labour candidate.
