lichtgilphead
May I take a moment to remind Ron of one of his quotes from an earlier debate? I'd love you to find a poll with a majority supporting independence. If the SNP had that kind of ammunition they would be soaring. If you look at the top of this page, Ron, you will note that the current P'n'B poll result has a convincing majority for independence. Figures at this moment in time are More powers for The Scottish Goverment? [ 19 ] [12.26%] Independence for Scotland? [ 85 ] [54.84%] Hand control back to westminister? [ 20 ] [12.90%] Keep things as they are? [ 31 ] [20.00%] Even if you include the "more powers for the devolved Scottish Government" option as anti-independence votes, the current majority opinion of the P'n'B masses is for an Independent Scotland. Isn't that nice.

Skipper
The fact that London, keeps us going just now, would have to be met by ourselves. I can't remember the statistic but I think that Scotland receives 4 or 5 times more money per head of population than the rest of the UK. That would have to be met by us to keep public spending as it is, or at least on a par Wherever you read it, you misread it ! Scotland, the South East and London all subsidise the rest of the UK. I can't see how we could possibly lose out by being independent. All for it.

Skipper
By totally fucking up the economy, leading to no jobs, and general chaos. No, by creating a booming economy, with loads of jobs of course ! Oh aye and a general outlook of optimism, something you could do with perhaps ! Must be sad being the token unionist in Peterhead right enough ! Paco
I'm not going to bother entering this debate, I don't know nearly enough about politics to make a strong argument either way. However, here's a link you'll all have saw no doubt, but some may need a little reminding of. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/6169353.stm
Skipper
if you look objectively at the two administrations their is a bawhair between them......council tax/local income tax ... the fact of the matter is the government has to raise the same amount of cash to pay for the services so really no-one is going to be better off in any tangible way. Well those on lower incomes will be better off And the richer will pay a bit more. Easily the fairest sytem of all, though not totally without flaws. No taxations system is. finnersaintee
Why is it scaremongering? im sorry, because its just a load of rubbish. Fair enough if folk argue against independence but saying 'in general f**k up the economy' - what is that? Scotland has been conditioned over the years to believe we're rubbish and cant achieve anythign, the media does it constantly, we do it to ouselves and you hear it so much over the years that you start to think its true. The taxation from Scotland's biggest industries, oil and whisky weren't included FFS ! Now, not all the oil may be in Scottish waters but the vast majority of it is and it don't matter who extracts it the tax would go to a Scottish government. Sanny's army
there is the scaremongering summed up. Makes me sick Ignorance personified. Scotland has over 50% of its workforce employed by the state, other countries it's as low as 5%. The numbers very quickly fall down, and tragically so. Oil? We take more from the UK in benefits than in oil revenues. Joke. Scotland is a sick, sick nation. Independence is not an option unless under a capitalist model which has radical tax schemes to attract business, the socialist scumbags who infest our pariliament (career teachers, civil servants and wankbags to a person) are hopelessly inadequate to deliver it though. Do what the f**k you like, I'm a high earner and I will never, ever work in Scotland again like so many Scots, I refuse to pay for the layabouts yet the layabouts have the media under their spell. An independent Scotland will be on a par with Eastern European countries, it's so sad. Long live the union, I don't particularly like the English, but it's what keeps us going.
