Just catching up.
With a chance to put down a score after the aussies poor 1st innings that’s an incredible score. People excuse England batsman for having a 1 day/20:20 mindset but even in limited overs that’s a ridiculously low score to post. The risks being taken are last over with 5 wickets to spare stuff.

Australia could probably declare now if they wanted, given the time left they’ll probably bat most of tomorrow to make sure and then try get some early wickets

They won't declare, they'll just bat until they are out which will happen at some point tomorrow anyway. They'll have over 2 days with a decent weather forecast to win the game.

The Aussies batting hasn't really impressed either.

Is it this Duke ball that's basically unplayable?

Like you've said, these totals would be poor (from both teams) in white ball cricket.

Yes, although it clearly is payable, as Labushagne has shown. The England players are too deep in to their white ball mentality though, where the ball does f**k all and the opposition have to adhere to fielding restrictions. You can't play that aggressively against a moving Dukes ball, you will get out.
