Can any cricketers out there explain to me why teams still use a night watchman? Jimmy Anderson done a fine job the other day in that position but surely a specialist batsman would be much better qualified to fend off a couple of late overs compared to a tailender.

So that the specialist batsman doesn;t have to go out and face a few over in poor light with nothing to gain.

As Johnston said he'd also have to 'play himself in' twice.

A specialist batsman would be far better qualified to see off these orders but thats cancelled out by the fact he'd be a much bigger loss than a tailender.

Another weird choice of team - for a team that needs to score runs they have brought back someone who they dropped 2 weeks ago as he wasn't scoring and since then he hasn't scored, Collingwood has scored 92 first class runs this season whilst the soak that is Flintoff hasn't exactly been batting his socks off - it's a total jobs for the boys attitude and not picking the players in form.

Still with Captain Calamity going first ball maybe they'll finally drop the useless git.

More chance of Barry Fergsuon winning Mastermind i'm afraid.

You're so right though, it is jobs for the boys. They drop Harmison, tell him to go back and take wickets in the county scene, which he does by the barrow load yet still don't select him. They drop Collingwood, tell him to go back to the county scene and score some runs, which he fails miserably, yet he gets selected again. It is an absolute farce. Owais Shah should try getting himself out cheaply a few times then he might get selected.

Lets not forget that Broad was dropped as he was "jaded and tired" so guess who is playing in a 4 day match versus Harmison and Durham?

That's the weakness in the Central Contracts system, the tendancy is to go back to the "old favourites" because they're getting paid regardless.

Vaughan in pre match interviews was going on and on about the ammount of practice he was doing with the coach.Wonder who should go 1st.

Not sure of the team unless Collingwood steps up to the plate then his place will have to go.At this level you cant afford to pick a player because he his a nice chap.

Good to see Collingwood back amongst the runs eh?

Anybody know how I can go about getting a job as an England selector? I've never played cricket before in all my puff and I have a very minimal knowledge of the game, surely i'm perfect for the job.

231 all out.

Anderson & Panesar run out in succesive balls.

76.6 Ntini to Panesar, 1 run, OUT, on the legs, squeezed down to deep backward square leg and that's really inexcusable - two run-outs in two balls, Paensar not getting back as the throw comes in and Boucher takes the bails off, Panesar failing to ground his bat as he tried to keep Flintoff on strike for the next over

MS Panesar run out 1 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

A poor call, really, and Anderson, who is more than handy with the bat, is on his way

76.5 Ntini to Flintoff, OUT, pushed forward and this was always a tight run, Flintoff calling Anderson through and a direct throw runs him out

JM Anderson run out 1 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

Shite sanger of a team they picked.

A top order with no runs in it bar Cook, Pieterson on a good day or Bell when everyone else is doing well. Combine that with a keeper that can't bat and 3 total rabbits and it's hardly surprising they got rolled.

Unfuckingbelieveable that they picked Collingwood rather than giving Shah or even Bopara(he's crap though) a go.

"Colly" is good in the dressing room according to "Vaughny". Shame he can't bat or bowl, but never mind, cant underestimate the value of a good story teller.

Dressing room needs new blood, and a new captain. Far too cosy for far too long.

I'd agree with that, it's a bit jobs for the boys at the moment. However, their's not exactly a hoard of guys staking a claim for a place right now. Shah,(who I rate) and Bopara (who I don't) seem to be about the only ones.

Another bowler is a must to take the pressure off Flintoff. He's bowled 24 overs FFS, no wonder he's always injured.

Put Flintoff at number 6, ditch Collingwood and put either Jones, Tremlett, Hoggard (what did he do so wrong to be ostracised in this way?) or even Bopara in.

Guest The Phoenix

Stuart Board should a standing dish in the Team.

I appreciate that he is suffering from exhaustion and that is why he was excluded for this test but he's got the makings of being a world class all rounder.
