I thought once again that for all England's posturing about how they can handle spin they failed to prove that was actually the case once they started batting. Putting in a night watchman was shambolic at best and Trott looked like he was shitting himself from the off. It was no surprise after several little prods at the ball that he got caught. Pietersen wil at least try and hit the ball away and if he can start scoring even a few ones and twos and finding gaps then he should force India to move a couple of close fielders out a bit and ease some of the pressure. India will feel they can skittle them out cheaply with this wicket. India's refusal to use the referral system works in their favour more often than it works against them. It also makes them look spiteful. I can't believe that the ICC haven't made the referral system compulsory for all Test matches, it seems bonkers to have the technology available but not use it. Btw, if England are to get anything out of this they have to get through this last session without loss IMO. The ICC unfortunately do not have the backbone to stand up to the Indian board who now carry far too much power and verge on the edge of bullying with some of their posturing and input to the world game. It also isn't being used in the Sri Lanka series which started today. The batting again pitiful in the sub continent with the same old rabbit in headlights look about certain so called experienced batsmen. Bell is a rime example - always looks great when coming in at 280-3 but when you need him when the chips are down he seldom delivers the goods. Hopefully Bairstow gets a shot next test Trott was fairly poor in the last 12months of test match cricket, so hopefully he knuckles down and gets back to his previous form as England need Trott to be at his best. eta - excellent session from the openers. England are still a significantly better side than the Aussies. The fact that they're having a tough time in India is indicative of having some way to go in terms of being head and shoulders the best in the world (which the have been in pretty recent times). As for today's play... Cook played his best ever innings for England I think, and Matt Prior is by a country mile the best wicket-keeper/bastsman in the game.
