topcat(The most tip top)
Ridiculous way for the game to finish! That was great fun.It looks like we’re getting two properly competitive test series. Which is nice
Aubrey Maturin
Really enjoyed watching Pakistan, very exciting team with a lot of potential. Top test match and all credit to England, 99/100 they would have lost after Pope went.
die hard doonhamer
What a fantastic test match. Proof, again, that test match cricket is the best sport on this earth.

Yep, bags of talent in this Pakistan team, should make for an interesting mini series over the next two games, just a shame it’s a short tour.

It's the sort of match up that deserves a 5 test series. Looking forward to the next one. I just love test match cricket and this one showed why its the pinnacle of the game.
Fuctifano
Fair play to Buttler and Woakes, two players who I've questioned more than others, always just assumed Woakes was the sort of guy who got 6-40 and 75*in an innings win at home to Bangladesh and nothing when it mattered but that was nuggety.
Lichtie78
Superb day up at AUCC scooping pints and watching cricket in the sunshine. Been told today that spectators not allowed in when friendlies are played against other clubs [emoji23] what a fucking shambles

The latter will attract the added bonus of pissing off the BCCI.
Fuctifano
Also it didn't affect the outcome but I agree with the comment about the Buttler lbw being iffy, to the naked eye the ball spun very sharply, reminded me a bit of the Stokes one at the end of the australia game last year where it would have been out if Australia had any reviews left as ball tracking said it spun but to the naked eye it was going straight on.

I was at work so didn't see it but if a spinning ball hits the pad before it hits the ground then the Umpire & the DRS has to assume it will travel straight on with no deviation.
Lichtie78
Ben Stokes has played his last test this summer as he goes to be with family in New Zealand
jaggyness
That's a huge blow. Losing their best player , although it saves the selectors deciding which seamer would have say out the next test.

Massive loss, but your man Curran is very unlucky to be out the side, so he’ll come in, or a batter like Crawley. Would have thought Archer and Anderson might get a rest.

I wouldn't be all that shocked to see them both rested, with Crawley, Curran and Wood brought in.
jaggyness
I wouldn't be all that shocked to see them both rested, with Crawley, Curran and Wood brought in.I think they were already a batsman light and everyone from Root down was at least one spot too high. Ok Curran can bat a good bit but surely if you're leaving them both out you only need to bring in one seamer? Unless Curran is back up like Stokes was in the first test?

You'd only have Broad, Woakes and one of Wood/Curran. You'd then be asking Bess to bowl a LOT of overs, and tbh I don't think he's good enough to cope with that burden. My XI would be: Burns Sibley Crawley Root Pope Buttler Woakes Curran Bess Broad Wood Although you are a specialist bat light (with the lack of a true all rounder), it's a very strong tail with none of the bowlers out of place if they were batting at 8.

Lichtie78
We've not been allowed spectators at Perth at all, the trust that own the ground haven't allowed it.Ahh really, that’s a shame. AUCC had two intra-squad T20s on Saturday, was quiet when I first went up but nipped away for lunch and came back for the second game with a few pals and the club was fairly busy by the end. Think the club had a few offers of friendlies in the weeks to come but due to the rules involved with those (individual travelling and no spectators) I think they’re just going to continue with the intra-squad stuff.
