Joe Root's continuined refusal to bat at 3 in Tests will mean they will go Burns, Roy, Denly, Root, Bairstow, Ali. Not really sure why they have called up Anderson as it would be pointless risking him so can see them going Woakes, Curran, Gregory, Broad & Stone but that would put them a pace bowler over so not really sure why Ben Foakes isnt there to bat at 7 & let Bairstow be a specialist batsman.

Assuming Woakes, Archer and Anderson are the preferred #8, 10 and 11, that's a clear cut four way bowl-off for the last Ashes spot whilst making sure any replacements for injuries (thinking Anderson here) have had game time. Might backfire in the context of the Ireland game itself if the batting folds (which isn't impossible), really unlikely though.

Tickets for the Scotland games at Mannofield on sale tomorrow, BTW. Will only make a couple due to holidays, but glad to see ODI's back up here.

Now that Wood has managed to crock himself again it looks that way unless they use Stokes as a 4th seamer when The Ashes start. Hoping that Curran wins the race as I like the way he plays.

It helps that Curran and Woakes are both good with the bat too, but I can’t see them both starting if Mo is still there. If you open with Burns & Roy, then go with Denly, Root, Buttler, Stokes, Bairstow and Ali. You only have 3 spots left which Woakes, Archer and Anderson have IMO.

If it were my choice, I wouldn't bother with Denly in the Ashes. I'd bat Stokes at 3. He batted a lot there in first class cricket, and has really matured as a batsman over the last couple of years. He has the skill and temperament to be a success there.

Announced that Bayliss’ next job will be back in the IPL with Sunrisers
Semi retirement for him then, he deserves it after the job he has done alongside Morgan over the past 4 years. Andrew Strauss & Paul Farbrace along with the players also deserve credit but they were the drivers of the ethic & never wavered even when it seemed to be falling apart. The combination of the feel good factor & home conditions will probably prevail in The Ashes but good luck fixing the boom & bust Test team after he goes, if it is going to be Chris Silverwood then he has some job on his hands to make them consistent.

Just noticed Martin Guptill playing tonight for Worcs, fair play to him.

After Sunday I'd have been on the first plane back to NZ and told Worcs to stick their fucking gig where the sun doesn't shine, not picking up a cricket bat until about 2021 if I was him (or any of the NZ players)

Good to hear Bumble back after not being picked for the WC, I think of the "old-school" commentators he's still got his charm.

I watched so little of the world cup on TV that I hadn't clocked that Bumble had been dropped (I followed most of it via TMS). That's a travesty though, he and Atherton are the best of the Sky lot, imo. I hope he's back on the England coverage for the Ashes.

The commentators were obviously rationed per country (presume Mbangwa counts as South African) and without sounding like yer da they obviously had a remit to include female commentators - the Aussie one Mel Jones was good, Isa Guha was awful. Bumble should have been in ahead of Ian Ward though and alongside Atherton and Hussain.
