Cardinal Richelieu
Cheers for the suggestions folks! Had considered the Dam and I certainly like the idea of a stadium finish. But I'd love to go to a country I've never been before (this is why I did Iceland) ... so I'm considering one of the other Scandinavian country, or maybe one of the Baltic nations. Minsk's idea of Finalnd sounds quite good, although I'd have to wait a year. In the meantime, got the Great Scottish Run in October. I'm assuming it's the same route as the last two years? While I'm on the subject, why do they insist on giving you a non-running T-shirt that's basically a giant advert for HBOS, when every other run I've ever done gives you a nicely designed running t-shirt with little or no advertising on it?

morrison
I did that one a couple of months back. Cracking run. The whole thing's a bit surreal - I went up to Svalbard for a couple of days afterward. If you want something this year, Valencia & Florence are both in November. Florence is great, and Valencia's a quick course (weather dependent!).

It's great to have something to hopefully make EMF up their game (e.g. change their route). It's likely a one-off for me as Great Run have had enough cash from me through the Great Edinburgh, Scottish and North Run events respectively... Are you going to be back on the roads in time to give this one a bash? Not sure yet - I'm hoping I might OK by mid-October, but will give it a month after feeling fine before I head back out this time. I've got my deferred place for London next April, but it might be pushing it a bit to go from no running for 9-10 months to doing a marathon 5 months after starting again. Might look at the Stirling one if London is a bit soon, but would more likely just hold off til something next Autumn.

You'll know yourself you could probably do enough to get round if you're back before the end of the year, but whether you're happy to maybe just get round and enjoy the day if you're not back up to speed by then is another thing.I had a cracking weekend away with our club. Started with a short trail race in Livingston before heading north for a run in Birnam & up to Pitlochry for the night. Despite the drinks, we all made it out for a 8-9 mile run at Glen Tilt.Safe to say I wouldn't have done that without joining the club - it's these kind of things that make it all worthwhile. The places were stunning!
Stellaboz
Ramped up mileage yesterday with 11k in prep for Scottish half in 2 weeka. Top of my right leg very stiff. So went hillwalking around Bennachie today
true_rover
Another 20 mile run knocked out today - someone tell me it gets easier! Managed to keep the same pace all the way through but the legs were crying out a bit for the last 2 or 3 miles.I'm sure unrelated to that was pushing hard in the second half of parkrun yesterday, passed halfway at 10:16 (still quicker than I had originally planned) and came back to finish sub 20.
Stu
Set the fastest time in the club 5k last week. Sadly, as it was the handicap the winner is decided on how close you were to your predicted time rather than outright pace and I only finished fourth. Typical!

Shettleston is also an option http://shettlestonharriers.org.uk/ List of other clubs at the scottish running guide link below http://scottishrunningguide.com/area-focus/

They have a good-sized adult section as well as kids coaches etc. Alternatively you could check out Jog Scotland who do various jogging groups etc. Edited September 6, 2016 by Nipples
Cardinal Richelieu
I've heard that there's a 10k in Stranraer on the 5th November. I was thinking of combining it with our match with Queen's Park.. Has anyone ever done it before? Is it hilly / busy / full of insects? (that last one I'd never have thought to ask until I did the Lochleven Half earlier this year). Thanks!

Stu
I'm going to do a few blog posts about taking up running at the start of the year. Probably fairly boring but thought I'd share them here anyway. Here's the first one: http://smtid.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love.html
