I apparently hadn't signed in here since January, but just happened to notice this.

I've never said that winning at betting is easy, because it isn't. I've had my fair share of stupid bets and there are some sports where I cannot make a profit despite trying (the NFL springs to mind). There are two main things to remember above all else I think:

  • Betting always comes down to simple probability and your ability to estimate the chance of something occurring (ie a team or player winning)
  • Discipline is everything. It is far easier to lose than win, so if you have no discipline you have little chance of winning long-term

There are no secrets. I do have a maths degree, but then I've never used anything more than you'd learn doing GCSE maths to bet on football (baseball would be different). If I could put my finger on one helpful attribute, it is being able to look at lots of different information and process it all in your head to make decisions. I have always been able to do this, even when I was 13 or 14. Given a bit of mathematical knowledge, and having followed football (and looked at football odds) for a long time, then being able to estimate the probabilities of teams winning comes fairly easily to me. Other sports are far harder for me to be successful at.

I would say if you've been betting for a while and you feel like you're not getting close to cracking it, then you need to be honest with yourself about why. You can't just wake up and decide to be good at something. Past experience and knowledge are all important.

Statistics are absolutely fundamental. If you're trying to bet without them, then you're basically guessing. You can of course use the statistics in a million different ways.

Thanks. Appreciate you answering.

Ive learned a great deal from all your answers.

I like the new Bet Builder tool on Bet365. It allows you to combine lots of different predictions in a match.

Used it a few times with a couple of winners and a couple going close. Would be good if they added specific players to be carded in them as it's something I have a decent success rate of predicting and as im not a high staker sometimes the odds are not worth it to bet as a single

It's getting trickier getting bets on in Spain, even using a proxy. Instantly refused at Bet365 and McBookies, managed to get a quick bet on with Paddy Power before they blocked me. With Skybet I sorted out the betslip before quickly logging on, bunging the bet on, and logging out. Hopefully that will keep working, seems there's a bit of a lag on the detection software.

Bet365 is having problems with their website, no cash out available and you can't see your bets unless you click History. The natives are getting restless, rumours of compensation if you complain.

No idea whether this is worth paying attention to. They're best known for modelling elections with aggregated polls and stuff.

Further to the gripes about Bet365 I'm getting hacked off as well. Seriously looking for another company. Bet365 is the only one I've used. What in the opinion of forumites is the best alternative, and why?

Thanks in advance.

Shop around, bet where the prices are best. Sticking to one account is just what the bookmakers want you to do. Loyalty certainly doesn't pay.

If you mainly bet on Scottish football McBookies is the one, their odds are usually competitive on general markets too. As blue says, open a few accounts though and compare the odds for each bet. https://www.oddschecker.com/ is a handy guide but not always up to date, and doesn't include Ladbrokes which quite often has the best odds.

I use Bet365, Hills and Skybet. Hills you get a free bonus drop a day and also a scratch of the day just now with which you can win various prizes. They also have pretty good boosted odds and if you have a plus card and link it to your account you get good offers.

Skybet gives you a free go at ITV7 and also a free spin a day to win prizes. You also can do the super 6.

They also have enhanced odds that can be pretty good. Example evens for Mo Salah to have 1 shot on target instead of 1/5.

hi all,

I've spent a chunk of the Covid lockdown building a website that compares football odds from UK bookies.
You could probably guess the name ... https://comparefootballodds.co.uk/

The site is now ready for use, and I'd be grateful for (helpful!) comments to improve it.

I built the site partially to refresh some old IT skills and to learn some new ones.

But also, it was built because I couldn't find a comparison site that:

  1. Only lists odds that are available to UK residents. I got sick of seeing great odds from foreign bookies that I couldn't use.
  2. Was easy to search for the teams that I want to bet on.
  3. Let me bookmark competitions and teams, for example https://comparefootballodds.co.uk/best-odds/livingston and https://comparefootballodds.co.uk/best-odds/scottish-premiership-(spfl)
  4. Analysed the odds data and provided useful info, such as which bookies are giving the best odds across whole leagues or countries and finding odds with a wide variance between bookies.

So - what do you think? How can I make this better? Any analysis you'd like to see?

Cheers,

Greg

PS There are two things that the site won't be able to do, at least for now.
First, please don't ask for arbs. I don't want to get blacklisted!
Secondly, the site isn't big enough (yet) to be able to offer in-game odds, since those change really rapidly.

I've run some analysis using odds data provided by bookies, to identify which bookies offer the best odds on football. The results below are heavily caveated: not all bookies are included; only match result odds are included here; the ranking changes frequently; analysis is on a best efforts basis; analysis is based solely on odds statistics - it does not consider other factors such as ease of use or speed of payout; and this ranking is not a recommendation for or against any bookmakers.

That said, right now (lunchtime on 16 Dec 2021), ten bookies offering the best odds on the Scottish Premiership are ranked as shown below:

If you'd like to see more explanation and caveats, or see up to date results for other competitions/regions, have a look at: https://comparefootballodds.co.uk/best-bookies/united-kingdom/

The ranking changes significantly depending on which matches you want to bet on. For example, right now, the ranking for French matches has SportingBet at #1, Bwin at #2, and BetVictor at #3.

Thanks for the request. I've applied online for Bet365 this morning, and emailed McBookies. Fingers crossed I'll get positive replies back. If they can provide datafeeds, I can add them to the site fairly quickly.
