If you haven't done it afore I'd do it to tick it off but I have done it 3 or four times and I hate it. Granted, the 'tourist path' borders on Village of the Damned territory in summer but Nevis via the Carn mor Dearg arrete gave Mrs. FP and I one of our best ever days out on the hills. Dunfermline Don
Seen this review of Ben Nevis doing the rounds. WTF!
Benjamin_Nevis
Nevis by the tourist route is an utterly boring grind. I've climbed it 3 times with the best by far being from Steall Meadows, through a dry Coire Eoghainn up CMDs East ridge then along the arete to Nevis. Glorious. I've yet to try the North Face scrambles though.
Dunfermline Don
Went for a short walk yesterday past John Knox Pulpit, round West Lomond and then back past the Bunnett Stone. On the walk along side the road back to the car park we were stopped by a group of young ladies with their kids who asked ‘where is the mountain?’ It wasn’t till they mentioned the waterfall I realised that they meant John Knox Pulpit and they had turned the wrong way when leaving the car park. Thankfully it’s paths all the way as I wouldn’t have fancied their chances if they had to walk ‘off piste’
Thereisalight..
Some pics from yesterday’s tough climb, Alisa Craig with no path! It was a scramble and I’m feeling it now but totally worth it for these views!
Robin.Hood
Ben Vrackie I'm doing on Saturday. Footwear what is best for this one?
Swello
I did it last month - motorway path all the way to the summit, so no need for boots IMO.

paul-r-cfc
Did Beinn a'Chroin and An Caisteal today in a doubler. Missed a turn off early on and anyone up doing them the other way round to save us backtracking. Really good walk. Reasonably clear, rain mostly stayed off and some good challenging parts as well. Boggy as hell as well. Spent a lot of time on my arse. That's my 5th and 6th munro of the last 4 weeks. Wish I'd gotten the bug at the start of the summer rather than the end!

Flippers and a weighted belt going by the forecast. Just decided to ditch a Ben Alder camping weekend for the gin joints and massage parlour of Edinburgh. Going to do my first ascent of Arthur's Seat tho

Recommendations welcome Depends on what you're after. I've had one of these Harvey's wallcharts on my office wall since I started out and it's great for seeing the Munros (and Corbetts, Grahams and Donalds) in context (I've done lots of non-popular routes as a result of looking at this. It also folds into a standard harvey's map size - so you don't need to have it on a wall (and if you're into it, you can record the hills you've climbed). Walkhighlands has great online maps for all the hill classifications that you can zoom from a full view like the below right down to 1:50000 OS level As an App - I use Viewranger as my main way of looking at OS maps on walks when I don't need to use a compass - it's great but would require you to pay for mapping tiles.

Tbh i rarely use the map and compass. I always take them, but will generally use VR unless visibility is atrocious

I know it's bad form but my last walk in 10m visibility I just used my phone. 4g seems to be pretty good on summit plateaus and ridges. In the last ten years I have used my compass about 4 times (admittedly would have been majorly fucked without at least once. Since getting a GPS 4 years ago that would have been the first port of call to get a grid ref which then gets applied to a paper map. Now that phones are reliable and waterproofish it's my go to. All that said I'm happier knowing I could use a combination of any of these if push came to shove.
