Benjamin_Nevis
I've finally managed to get some hills in the last couple of weeks. Dragged my hungover sister across the easy East Glenshee hills a couple of weeks back and yesterday had a brutal day on Carn Ban, a truly remote Corbett near Ullapool. It's about 20 miles of biking, mostly on a really rough rubbly track and 6+ miles on foot. The summit itsrlf is a great done, but with glorious views to the Deargs and Assynt mountains. I spent about 40 mins at the top, flat calm and warm. I even crashed out for 10 mins. Cycling back into what developed into a strong headwind was an irritating ending to the day. f**k being a purist and walking it all [emoji38]

Hills that are in the middle of nowhere like this are my favourite View in the last picture is brilliant - mountain porn - which is lucky as the visibility has been rubbish for the past couple of weeks. My plan for this is bike in (at the moment, I fancy the Alladale approach instead) and stay at Glenbeg bothy so that I pick up a couple of other remote hills (grahams) when I'm there - maybe later this summer.

I had the Alladale approach recommended to me after I'd stuck that up on Facebook [emoji38]

I'm only just nearing double-figures, which is pretty appalling (from Angus too). Out of interest, what was the Glenshee ones you did? Carn Aosda etc? Not to crow, but I took me 29 minutes to get to the top. I thought I had it done wrong or it was a false-peak as my book/walkhighlands site says 4-6 hrs for the three of Aosda, Cairnwell and Gheoidh. Anyhoos, those pics are giving me the bug to get out when I'm next home in June! Edited May 2, 2019 by Kejan

Anyhoos, those pics are giving me the bug to get out when I'm next home in June! I'm on 225 mate, but as with most East coasters I did everything around me first and now have about a 3 hour drive to my nearest unclimbed Munro [emoji38] The Glenshee ones I did the other week were the 4 across the road. Bigger day than the Cairnwells but still good to do get under your belt early doors. A bit of a pain in the arse if you're on your own though as it's linear and means a long walk back to the start. I had the exact experience on Carn Aosda. It was my 11th Munro. I got up it in about 25 minutes and checked the map about 3 times looking for the actual summit [emoji38] Have you done any west coast/north west highland ones yet? Some utterly glorious walks and views to be had.
Benjamin_Nevis
After recovering from Carn Ban I headed to Glen Shiel for the superb Forcan Ridge, and now in Skye having just repeated Bruach na Frithe, one of the easier Cuillin peaks. Wintry conditions both outings though.

My wee boy's old enough I can carry him facing forward in a papoose and he'll happily babble away for 3 hours so I feel like with the summer coming I can probably manage some nearby Grahams and Corbetts with him in tow. Is this do-able or should I content myself with your great photos and wait till he's a bit older? My brother used to do that when his eldest was a baby. But then he's a major fitness type. I waited until mine was a little older (4-5) so he could walk up the smaller ones himself.

Beinn Buidhe is firmly in my "needs done but I can't be fucked with it" file. Anyway, another day on the Cuillin ridge, Sgurr na Banachdich this time. One of the easy ones on Skye with ridiculous views.
welshbairn
My niece fell off Dumbarton Rock yesterday, broken pelvis and other bones. Sounds ok, but be careful out there.
Benjamin_Nevis
Anyone here done the scramble up to Sgurr Dubh Mor on the South Cuillin ridge? It looks a fairly exposed scramble up a few ledges. Is it tougher than the Aonach Eagach in terms of comparison?

Definitely not my favourite munro although I did do it in bad weather. But as you are on 200 odd it looks like it needs to be done. There is some interesting route finding just to get to the scrambly bit at the end and although the Aonach probably has more sense of exposure, it is quite a bit easier IMO. We linked Sgurr Dubh Mor and Sgurr Alisdair (via a tough little basalt chimney) when we did it and the whole day felt mildly scary If you don't have the book "skye scrambles" already, get it - it makes these routes much easier as it describes everything in minute detail. Great photos of Banachdich BTW - my actual best ever day on the hills ended there after coming round the ridge (Aonach x10 ) from Sgurr a Greadaidh/Mhadaidh).

I've read SDM as everything from straightforward to terrifying [emoji38] My mate's doing the two day traverse in June so I've got the option of coming back with him. I think I'd sell my soul to avoid the Stone Shoot off SA. The weather looks decent for the rest of the week so Blaven via the South Ridge today looks on the cards. We'd spoken to a guide about the Mhadaidh/Ghreadaidh/Banachdich traverse but wintry stuff on the ridge binned that one.

I've read SDM as everything from straightforward to terrifying It does seem to divide folk and you will probably find it a piece of piss - I think it was a tough one not just because of the pure scrambling (which isn't *that* technically hard) but once you come down off Sgurr Dubh na du Bheinn, the way isn't always obvious and I always had a bit of fear that I was committing myself with no easy way back. The summit is a complete knife edge ridge and the way down is tougher than the way up. This made me reach for Skye Scrambles and I've just given myself the fear looking at the picture of the way we took up Alasdair from there - I must have been mad as it looks way worse than anything on SDM, which is the bit that stuck in my mind

Went up the south ridge, the tourist route was used on descent, several hundred metres of shite rubble and scree. f**k going up that

Wtf That's a picture from a guide book - but I did do that section with no rope. It didn't feel quite as exposed as the pic shows (or more accurately, there were really good holds and I didn't look down ) Spending a few days on Skye does strange things to your sense of what you're comfortable doing.
Benjamin_Nevis
Sgurr nan Eag today. Mixed feelings about this as Coire a'Ghrunnda is absolutely stunning. However endless ascent and descent on near vertical rubble and scree is fucking diabolical.
