Rookie error 30 seconds in, never put PTFE tape on the threads of the fitting. The olive does the sealing as will the flat washers on the flexible connections. They then take a shower - every time after taking a dump they take a shower! No wonder water is in short supply. Most folk also have disconnected the toilet flush (if they ever had one) and prefer to empty a bucket of water into the pan and hope for the best.
