Annoying as it was a) pretty much a full can so it’s a waste and b) had a really enjoyable save on Football Manager and I don’t think I can get that back. Yeah, you can. Get a friendly tech to take out the hard drive and make a copy of everything important. If FM doesn't upload saves to the cloud yet, you'll be able to copy the save files and put them in the correct directory when you get a new machine. Also, leaving your laptop alone to dry out for a few days might see it come back to life, if you're lucky.

Obviously I’ve absolutely no problem in stopping to let people cross, but the number of people that take their first few steps on the crossing and then veer off to the right completely off the crossing does ma heid in. This reminds me of the zebra at the start of Broomhill Road just after the Holburn St roundabout. People walking along the street suddenly deciding to cross at said zebra without giving any indication that they're about to do so (instead of turning to face the other side, stopping there for a moment, which unequivocally signals their intention to cross, and then doing so) is a piece of nonsense. I've seen folk just veer on to it, or take a big Brian O'Driscoll side step onto it from the street, just expecting the traffic to read their minds and immediately stop. Insane.

WIWAL being taught how to use a zebra crossing, I was told that the procedure was to stop at the kerb and put one foot onto the crossing and wait for the traffic to stop.

Aye, this is sensible. I think folk have imbibed the "have a right to cross here without waiting for lights etc" to mean "As soon as I step on this then the traffic must just magically stop" with no consideration that road users are human beings to and rely on things like behavioural cues. I've came close to crashing my bike because of these chumps.

How about you stop cycling on pavements despite being a bunch of 40 year olds wearing Lycra - or better yet, f**k off altogether. -

I ride on pavements because I'm a 40* year old wearing lycra, not in spite of it. It makes me feel seen. *39 and a half.

It’s a MacBook which probably causes itself its own problems but I’ll take it to the fancy Apple store and see what they can do. Might be a battery issue (as it’s been telling me for a year or two now) but have a feeling the can was the main problem. All my uni stuff, and most things in general, are saved to the cloud anyway so there should be minimal damage on that front. Not sure about my FM save (2020) but won the league with Thistle finally and was about to embark on a Champions League campaign. Very rarely manage them and had a good team assembled. Worse things have happened.

No idea what they charge at those places, but I'd imagine it'll be far more than the service is worth Edit: just checked and FM saves are uploaded to Steam Cloud these days, so when you download FM2020 on a new machine, it should download your save files too. 19QOS19
I’ve been considering getting it this year but a lot of the side effects of it being a steroid (plus the reason the NHS doesn’t offer it) is making me slightly hesitant. Spoke to the Doctor who administers mine and asked him why the NHS don't offer it anymore* and he gave it the finger swipe: money. I haven't experienced any side effects. I know like most steroids it can effect your bones later on or something but tbh I couldn't care if it means I can walk outside in the summer. If you can get hold of it, take it. * Though the NHS do still administer it in rare cases. A lassie my mum knows was given it on the NHS two years ago and I was fizzing.

There's a high chance that it's the keyboard that's affected. If you can lay your hands on an external USB keyboard, it would be worth giving that a quick go.

Daughter, got the old one working after a week, but remember I live in an average 35 degree country. Stick it in the oven.

Next to something that absorbs moisture, like a bowl of cat litter. People have had success repairing circuit boards with a quick blast in the oven, the theory being that it melts the solder and fixes dodgy connections, but they need to be stripped down as plastics aren't keen on high temperatures!
