When one of Cosgrove or Cowan are missing in action, yet they still introduce OTB with "you're listening to the odd couple of Scottish football".  Well no, we're not.

Cosgrove and/or Cowan being MIA does very much not belong in this thread.

Are these petty? I’m not sure:

1. Jacob Rees-Mogg pretending he didn’t know the phrase “yellow peril” was racist.

2. Jacob Rees-Moffat walking into a job with Rothschild investments with a 2:1 in History.

I got a 2:1 in history and I walked straight into the dole queue.

But I know more about mediaeval Scotland than that faux posh w****r so I win.

I didn't know "yellow peril" was racists . But I've also never heard it used.

If you've never heard it used, you're not going to say it are you? Rees-Mogg didn't invent the phrase, he has heard it before and it's only ever used as a racist term to describe China.

I have only ever heard this term used at work when new signalling diagrams get issued as they get printed on yellow paper.  I can get the hint of historical empirical racism going on with the term tho am at a loss as to what context anyone would use it today.

Well Mogg does seem stuck in some historical time warp.

Either did I tbh. It's a title of an OFAH episode and I just assumed it was the restaurant they were painting.

Quote

The Yellow Peril (also the Yellow Terror and the Yellow Specter) is a color-metaphor that represents the peoples of East Asia as an existential danger to the Western world.[2] As a psycho-cultural menace from the Eastern world, fear of the Yellow Peril is racial, not national, a fear derived not from concern with a specific source of danger or from any one people or country, but from a vaguely ominous, existential fear of the faceless, nameless hordes of yellow people opposite the Western world. As a form of xenophobia, the Yellow Terror is fear of the Oriental, non-white Other, a racialist fantasy presented in the book The Rising Tide of Color Against White World-Supremacy (1920), by Lothrop Stoddard.[3]
