Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

Recommended Posts

I was amazed to find out that a lot of folk sleep with their phones under their pillow.
I was also amazed to find that folk have all their notifications turned on even when trying to sleep. Absolute mentalist behaviour. Just turn off Wi-Fi and/or data.
The only reason my phone is in my bedroom when I go to bed is because it acts as my alarm. It still gets turned down to the lowest volume without it being on mute and placed face down on the wee bedside table.
There's a boy at work always on his phone. He thinks he's being stealthy by having it on his leg or in a drawer but when he's hunched over looking at it it's incredibly obvious what he's doing. He's been warned a few times about it and I keep trying to tell him to stop being so obvious but he's going to end up in bother over it. So stupid.
Why dont you have it completely silent? This is every bit as mental IMO.

I’m considering buying a cheap alarm clock so I can just leave my phone downstairs at night.

I hate going in to a pub and seeing groups of folk sitting at tables all on their phones and not talking to each other, probably posting on social media about how great a time they're having.

They're probably texting each other.

Because then I wouldn't hear the alarm.

I almost never get texts or calls, and texts would be the only thing I would hear since no one would call me at night, but it's very rare to get one when I'm sleeping or trying to sleep. I've never been woken up at night by a text.

On every phone I've had the alarm overrides if you have it on silent.

Why don't you sit in the house and text this girl as a date?

Seems that would be her kind of evening. Also pretty sure you can't get her pregnant from Sexting.

Unsure if you're seen as a slag for sexting on the 1st date

She'd probably make a lot of money as a sort of on-line escort. She's very funny etc, just never off her fucking phone.

Just put your phone on flght-mode and set your alarm as normal. That's what I do. Phone on flight-mode at 11pm every night. Anything after that can wait till the morning and your alarm works fine.

On mine the alarm settings have a volume mode independent of the main 'phone

The alarm on my phone sounds even if it's on silent.

I just assumed all phones were the same.

This... Surely established several years ago by most if not all functioning adults.

Cant believe someone is needing to be told this, or has failed to test/prove it themselves

Not sure what the issue is here.

Like I've already said, I don't get any texts or calls at night (I rarely get them during the day as well unless it’s a sales call) so it’s not like I’ll be woken up because my phone is on low volume.

I also don’t think that one of the measures of being an adult is knowing if a phone alarm overrides the volume setting.

The wifes cousin has just told us their wedding date will be on our first wedding anniversary.

I booked a trip away for me and my partner for her birthday in 2017 , only for her fucking sister to book her wedding day on the same day.

Estate agents. Particularly in Switzerland. In the UK they have the reputation for being sharking b*****ds who will do anything to punt a house and close a sale. Over here they appear to do everything they can to avoid actually selling houses. We are looking and have tried viewing several places over the last few months. Most estate agents here will not do anything outside standard office hours(Mon-Fri 9-5). We are trying to get an appointment to view somewhere at the moment, took us 10 days to get a response from the agent who is dealing with it(sorry for the delay, I have been very busy), and she has told us that she will only do viewings between 10am and 4pm during the week. Given anyone who is going to be in a position to buy is probably going to be working then, and given the town I fucking live in is basically a commuter town for Bern, Luzern, Basel and Zürich, she is pretty much making it as difficult as she can for the vast majority of potential buyers to see the place she wants them to buy from her. This has been the case with most places we have wanted to view so far. If I do buy a house here and end up having to sell it, I will probably do the fucking sale myself rather than ask one of these work shy fuckers to pretend they are earning their vast fucking commission.

So the doors didn't fall off after driving off bridges etc.

that now makes sense. a pity that welding the doors would probably make you fail your MOT as diving off bridges is probably the same as negotiating all the pot holes in Edinburgh. Some of them are so deep I shouted down one "How's it going?" only to get the reply "Bonzer Mate"

Youtube algorithms.
I don't know, maybe because so many people see a buck in getting clicks, but it seems to be getting worse. I like channels about woodworking, history, DIY, some movies and yet every day I need to delete recommendations that are obviously far right political channels. I assume the algorithm has detected from these interests that I'm a man of a certain age and therefore I'm most easily monetised by flinging that shit at me. Youtube needs negative keyword filters to block this stuff from being seen.
Knew you were a secret Tory.
