Agree that they most probably won't be bothered, but more than happy to constantly choose a game hosted by clubs below tier 5 spouting "magic of the cup" and get their behind the scenes access

That's true. Suppose it would be another voice. Thanks for the reply.

Being honest, I can't see this being anything more than an extra qualifying round or two, which with the volume of teams getting licensed was something that was always going to happen, you can't increase the number of entrants without increasing the number of rounds.

As many suggested, it's probably the expected rejig of the format following the increase in numbers. In the recent past with 2 preliminary rounds, HL/LL were automatic to 1st Round proper, while everyone below & qualifiers were in the Prelims.

Another example of running his mouth.

Yeah that makes sense that some of Lowland & Highland League will now need to join us in the West & East in qualifying round(s) due to increase in number of teams.

What teams will be added from next season? Troon, Glenafton any others?

I assume only real change to the cup if this plan comes to be is that any unlicensed winners at tier 6 wouldn't get in as they would essentially be bumped to tier 7

Really only Beith, Hurlford and Largs left that are top half teams without a license. Beith would get into Scottish Cup next season if win the league and probably hoping for a good run so they can get some cash in to try to go for licensing in near future.

Carnoustie and Invergordon got in last season on this rule. Although I think it's great, it wouldn't be the most terrible thing in the world if it was quietly dropped now that so many have put in the effort to get licences.

It would be hilarious having Loch Ness in there just once and demanding to play it in Fortrose though

In an ideal world, I think Scottish Cup entry would be completely independent of licensing, with all clubs in the top (say) 6 tiers getting automatic entry and then qualifying tournaments played the previous season for the tiers below that. Licensing could be exclusively for league eligibility, with different criteria required at each level.

I’m quite in favour of having colts teams in a new 5th tier, but with conditions attached. My first condition would be that the clubs should need to provide evidence that these youths will get an opportunity to play in their club's first eleven. Two of the clubs involved have not given a single minute of football to any their academy recruits this season, yet they’re campaigning for a new division to help develop said youngsters. Some of these players have been at their parent clubs since childhood, yet as soon as they look ready to step up a ready made foreign player is recruited at a considerable cost to the club. For this reason talents like Ben Doak and Billy Gilmour have been developed for years then allowed to slip through the net to English clubs for a minute fraction of the cost expended to recruit those “ready made” players. Have the people who are willing to fund this new division taken the time to ask the managers of their clubs if they will be given a fair opportunity to play for the first team? Or will a “ready made” foreign player always be their preference? If not then it’s a monumental contradiction to declare that they need a fifth tier to develop their academy graduates.

You entire point falls apart here...

Do you see the influx of youth when Rangers were relegated to League 2 and were apparently skint?

No neither did we. They still CHOSE to go out and buy in international players on crazy wages to draw against Peterhead.

So what chance do we have and would you trust them?

Even if there was a clear trend of talent regularly graduating from the colt sides to the first team squads it still shouldn't be the role of Tier 5 teams to facilitate it like paid sparring partners. The Lowland League is a glorified sand box thanks to this shite.

No idea what is being referred to with that last post. If B teams are back in the LL next season, the Conference thing isn't happening imminently and I strongly suspect won't be happening at all.

The whole "Guess what Mick Kennedy is saying about the Scottish Cup entrants on Twitter" carry on yesterday.

This from the Lowland League thread.

QUOTE FROM TODAYS EDINBURGH EVENING NEWS

Darvel manager Mick Kennedy, whose West of Scotland League Premier Division side shocked Montrose and Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup this season, wrote on Twitter: “Only in Scotland would league reconstruction to progress our game relegate over 200 clubs. Anyone who supports this should be ashamed. There is a reason the new conference requires no voting power, because they already know it's wrong on so many levels.”
