doulikefish
Mental the beeb let Andrew Neil present a news show for around 15 years and today they have cancelled an Attenborough episode and lineker has to "step back"
Bairnardo
This country is beyond repair. I know that sounds dramatic. But it's absolutely true. The phrase "critical thinking" has been used on this and various other threads on here of late. It's utterly correct that there's not enough of it going around and when you combine that with an actively malicious, politicised media, political discourse is utterly dead, and its now about differing brands of populism.... Fighting to be in charge of deckchair alignment on the the Titanic.

Popular Post Mark Connolly
Absolutely mental that he is taken off air for calling the Tories out, when less than 24 hours ago, Fiona Bruce was firefighting on behalf of Stanley Johnson's wife beating. The BBC is an absolute fucking cesspit

Eatmygoal
Will be interesting to see which presenter and pundits decide to appear now. It would be great if they all followed Ian Wright's lead. He can wind me up at times over football, but I'm fully behind him here.
Empty It
Sky should be phoning Linekers people with an offer right now, brilliant he's stood by his correct statement about these Tory c***s and bit of class from Wright standing by his mate.
djchapsticks
A dangerous road to be going down for sure. The country is in the absolute doldrums after 13 years of being run fucking dreadfully. There are so many social, welfare, financial, health issues the length and breadth of the country and the ruling party now decide they basically have - like they did with Brexit - a single-issue manifesto to get in at the next GE...nothing to do with political nous, intelligent thought, critical thinking or big personalities. They have none of that, a party totally bereft of talent, so they'll go one route...they'll go the hatred route, the same route that duped a country into thinking Brexit was a good thing because there were bad people at the door. And fucking idiots will fall for it again - the first high profile head to pop above the parapet and publicly draw comparisons to the early days of the Nazi party was going to be made an example of. The BBC, through the veil of 'impartiality' have actually drawn a very clear line in the sand here and essentially told it's staff to STFU and fall in line. And they wonder why these comparisons exist.
Hedgecutter
The message coming across loud and clear here is that it's fine for BBC presenters to air their views outside of the workplace, but on the strong condition that it fits the right-winger narrative. Andrew Neil on the other hand?. Consistently posting right-wing and climate change conspiracy material via Twitter whilst working at the BBC as one its most prominent political presenters (whilst also being the chairman of the Spectator), but avoided any significant criticism. In the end he became a columnist for the Daily Heil, this of course being one of the papers calling for Lineker to be sacked for doing the same thing with a different subject. Top level hypocrisy. Rugster
Ian Wright is a cock, but fair play to him. Whoever steps in to present is a scab.
ParsJake
"Taken off air" for saying something the politically-wrecked rabid Right didn't like. Nothing like 1930's Germany one bit, no siree, not at all.
MazzyStar
5 hours ago, Fullerene said: There is a bit of "shoot the messenger" going on here. Same tactics as the UK government. If Alistair Campbell had said it, you would be saying "What about Iraq?" If Nicola Sturgeon said it, somebody would say "what about the ferries?" As far as his message is concerned, I totally agree with him. And they’d be absolutely correct to say that in regards to Alistair Campbell.

When this happens in Russia, the media in this country have and do report on it in a very morally superior tone, showcasing how backwards it is for some poor newsreader to get hauled off set mid-report, never to be seen again for saying something the authorities disagree with. And yet...
