Title Chasing Queen's Park v L1 dodging Cove

Recommended Posts

What a different a year makes! This time last year it was looking like a battle for 4th with Falkirk and possibly missing out on the playoffs. To be a Spiders fan right now must be pure joy. To see promotion after promotion with another promotion looking ever closer. See your club go full time and thrive, whilst taking in quality additions and playing silky football.

For Cove looking back to early summer it was inevitable we might struggle in this division or at least be down near the relegation playoffs. Been a tough couple of months and this game will be more of the same.

Our last 2 recruits look promising, more than that can be said for the 8 before them. Hopefully we have Shay, Mitch and Scully back. All didn't play against Dundee at the weekend and the latter two didn't even make the matchday squad. Mitch failed a late fitness test.

We'll need to be at our best, ruthless in front of goal and hope the Spiders are off form. A point would be a good result, three points like gold dust. With the Spiders needing the points too it should make for a good game minus the freezing temperatures.

I'll be at Ochilview on Friday night

Onto yet more Friday nights at Ochilview. Apart from that 6-0 win in January, Cove have really made it difficult for QP in the games we’ve played this season. We’ll be hoping to get a response after letting a 2-0 lead slip against Morton and we would be expected to beat Cove but we’ll probably concede late on to draw 1-1 which could have a big impact in the relegation battle and the title race depending on what happens elsewhere. Can’t wait for this one.

I don't like Friday night games. We don't seem to play at our best in these.

Just pulled together the stats, and it's pretty ordinary. We've played seven games on a Friday night in the league this season, five of them 'at home'. Of those seven, we've won two (4-1 away to Arbroath just before Christmas, and 2-0 at home to Ayr at the start of February), lost two (3-2 at home to Ayr back in August and 2-0 away to Cove at the start of November) and drawn three. 9 points out of a possible 21 or 1.3 points a game.

Contrast that to our record on a Saturday, where we've had two draws, four defeats and 11 wins out of 17 games, 35 points out of a possible 51 or 2 points a game.

We're actually unbeaten at home on a Saturday, with six wins and a draw (including the game against Hamilton at Hampden), compared to one win, one defeat and three draws playing at home on a Friday night.

A win virtually guarantees we won’t be relegated. Mission accomplished.

5 points guarantees 8th place but it would be absolutely extraordinary if we didn't finish at least in 7th place. A win tonight will put extra pressure on the teams chasing us.

Didn’t they they take 3 points off Thistle a few weeks ago?

Yes, they did, so it’d be lovely if our city neighbours could do the honourable thing and give them another 3.

I’m assuming this isn’t on telly and it’s just that Stenny are at home tomorrow?

They did indeed BYOS. Decent performance from them, no doubt QP will prove a much tougher opponent being comfortably atop the league table.

Wouldn't it be great fun if it was a bit closer though? Right down to the wire, would be marvelous, wouldn't it?

Just win. All about results at this point

Win tonight and thistle lose tomorrow would be lovely. Would effectively put thistle out the title race i would say

Anything less than 3 points tonight and we’re in trouble
