See if you'd said "a nothing challenge" that's one thing, but you've given away your true feelings on it by calling it "a nothing foul". A nothing foul is still a foul 😉

I called it a 'foul' because, you know, the referee gave a foul.

I don’t know the circumstances, but was that a straight red from the ref, or did VAR say it was a red ?

VAR but it was a deserved red if you looked at the correct camera angle. The overturning was bizarre.

Not to once again lift the lid on this, but the difference between that and Ricky Little's overturned one is... not huge?!

The difference is probably a couple of yards tbh.

O'Brien is actually goal side of the incident whereas Randall was a couple of yards behind in Baldwin's case. You could legitimately argue there's a covering defender whereas in County's case you couldn't.

 Fucking hell.

Maybe try it when Baldwin puts the challenge in not when Van Veen's been cleaned out and face first on the deck.

Knew you'd like that! 😉  You've forgotten that Randall runs at 100mph mate.

We can discuss whether or not he was denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity or not, there is no clear criteria to make decision making clear, it remains the judgement of the referee. What concerns me, is that I can’t see that VAR adds anything to what the referee saw and yet he changed his mind.

In the penalty call he was alerted to the County player being the first to pull a jersey. That was additional information and to me, is what VAR is for. The red card decision is a third party trying to influence the referee’s opinion and replace it with their own.

He gets alerted that this may warrant a red rather than a yellow.
He checks it.
He makes a decision.

I enjoy that even though this is paused about 5 minutes after the initial challenge, the covering defender still isn't past KVV

That shows the value of diving for the line in a foot race
