Raith vs Ayr, 24/2/2023

Recommended Posts

Can the unbeaten, but far too often drawn, streak continue for Raith? Can Ayr regain their earlier form, or os the air going out of their balloon? Raith look to be improving, with the window incomings helping address the attacking concerns a wee bit. Ayr, after a very nice January, have stumbled in February and dropped to third. With Partick and Morton certainly both looking improved, both sides need points if they want to chase a playoff spot…so what’s it going to be in this weeks televised match?

If the 4 man midfield and defence don't work change it, simples

                          Albinson

               Kirk McGinty Musonda

Houston McAleer McAllister Dempsey Mullin

                    McKenzie Dipo

Thistle were no great team yesterday but beat us fairly comfortably so will be interesting to see how we fair against this Raith team at this time in the season. The opportunity is there for them to expose massive glaring deficiencies in our team.

Do tell…we’ve finally got some life up front, but you’ll surely score from a set piece at some point.

3 or 5 at the back is just a disaster waiting to happen. Doesn’t suit our centre backs, doesn’t suit our full backs and doesn’t get the best out of our attacking players. To say that a 4 man midfield doesn’t work when we got to the top of the league playing that way isn’t right. It’s not about the formation, it’s down to how Bullen is instructing them to play and how the players themselves go about it.

4-4-2, McKenzie up front with Dipo and Mullin and O’Connor wide. McAlear and Dempsey in midfield and Musonda in at left back if he’s fit enough.

Musonda at left back sounds just as painful however with the states of Reading currently he probably couldn't do much worse

Is Musonda fit? I know you boys were raving about him initially but he usually misses a big chunk of the season. I’ve not really kept up with how he’s been getting on.

He hasn't played since early November...

Returned to the bench on Saturday for the first time since and supposed to be playing in a reserve match this week so expecting him to disappear again by Friday

He played there for large parts of his time at Raith and was fine. He also played there against Morton and was doing well until his injury.

Nah Musonda is better than Reading there. He even got forward as well when he was in there.

Frankie is class, I actually think you could play him anywhere tbh.

This is his biggest downfall. Commands a good wage and then misses half the season.

Aye, it doesn't help that competent centre halves at this level aren't nearly as difficult to find compared to other positions. We brought in Nolan and O'Riordan in the summer, both of whom had next to no experience at this level but had the stature, and both have done ( or did) as well at centre half.

I'm pretty sure McGlynn mentioned at one point he was potentially going to shift him into midfield when we got all of our bodies back in the first season he signed. It never came to fruition, but  I don't think it would've been an outrageous idea.

Correct, he was looking to convert Frankie to a DM/Sweeper, but his slow recover from knee surgery put paid to that.

Indeed he did, Frankie can play CB, LB, RB, LWB, RWB and (probably) DM, LM, RM. Truly classy player when healthy, and seemed a really nice guy, just cursed health wise.
