Pete the Jakey
1 hour ago, Leith Green said: In rugby, where they can stop the clock, world rugby did some analysis on top level matches last year and determined that there was an average 46 minutes (out of 80) of what they call dead ball time - basically because their coaches work out how to waste time whether thats in the spirit / rules of the game or not. That sport tried to regulate time wasting and has found that it doesnt really work and they now need to change the laws annually to keep up with "clever" tactics dreamed up by coaches to kill the game. Look at International rugby - the game is really won in the period up to the mid 70s minute now, and its all about having possession at that point and not conceding a pen. Its all fine and dandy if your team are at the 76 minute mark with the ball and you can kill the match until the time goes red...................but it loses the excitement of the injury time goal that we have in fitba. Occasionally in Rugby though a team is 2 points down or less with possession and they effectively have as long as they want to try and score try or drop goal. As long as they keep it in play and dont turn over. In that situation, as rare as it is, it can be very exciting.
Crawford Bridge
Rugby Union doing something is not a selling point. It's a turgid sport.

Charles Stiles
One thing from rugby I'd bring in is that physios can treat players on the pitch while the game goes on as long as it doesn't interfere with play. Would reduce players deciding to just sit down for 'treatment' to break up play/waste time when someone brushes against them. That really does my head in.

DA Baracus
Seems like this is going to be like VAR in terms of how it gained 'popularity' and eventually came about. Sadly seems like only a matter of time until it's introduced. Just like VAR it will be utterly shite and only for the thickest of morons.
