Josh Ginnelly becomes Hearts 6th dismissal  of the season putting Hearts clear at the top of the table one ahead of  both Livingston and St Mirren

It would be 7 if you count Robbie

So Dundee Utd aren't the hammer throwers after all?

Apparently not usually anyway

Only Hearts and Celtic have fewer yellow cards than Dundee United and nobody has conceded less fouls in total

Which surprised me given the, shall we say, “robust” approach they entered Saturday’s game with. Possibly having found themselves in a relegation battle they were attempting a “no more mister nice guy” attitude

So we are averaging a red card ever 6.8 yellow cards, now that's impressive.

But how can this be when according to our Hibs and Aberdeen friends the referees and VAR give us every decision?

2 of those 6 league red cards came in one game against Celtic back in August. Cochraine in the 89th minute for a 2nd booking, followed by Sibbick in the 91st minute, again for a 2nd yellow. The booking Ginnelly got against Dundee Utd there was in the 96th minute.

So that's 3 out of those 6 red cards right near the end of the game which didn't ultimately have any influence on the outcome of the game.

Other red cards include Devlin in the 39th minute in a 4-0 defeat to Rangers at Tynecastle in October. Rangers were 2-0 up before the sending off. Grant in the 38th minute in a 3-2 victory at Tynecastle in November. Shankland with an 89th minute penalty to give Hearts the win.

Arguably the only red card that may have ultimately influenced the overall outcome was a 75th minute red card for Rowles at Tynecastle against Livingston in a 1-1 draw back in November as well.

Imagine how far ahead we'd be if we played against 10-men as often as a certain club lower down the table.

Imagine how far ahead we'd be if we were given penalties for nothing while more legitimate claims were ignored at the other end of the pitch. Imagine how far ahead we'd be if teams weren't allowed to barge our keeper over at corners.

Not sure how you reach the conclusion the red against Motherwell couldn't have influenced the outcome of the game, we played over an hour with 10 men.

And the penalty in that game was a stonewaller.

Hibs fans are fair losing the run of themselves these days. Great stuff.

Neilson also said he didn't think it was a red immediately after the game and said he hadn't seen it back.

I think in today's game you're getting a red for that 9 times out of ten.

No believing that, he's usually hovering over whoever has the tablet in the dugout, checking out every incident in the game for hand balls in the box and fouls all over the pitch, then moaning to the officials wanting a decision for Hearts.

We've had the same number of penalties as Aberdeen and one more than Livi. The only slightly debatable one was at Tannadice and we've had more nonsense penalties against than for.

But anyway, let's accept your premise that opposition teams should be allowed to commit fouls in their own penalty box and see how the numbers stack up.

Non-penalty goals:

Hearts 36

Hibs 34

Non-penalty goals against 11 men:

Hearts 33

Hibs 23

Will this stop your tears on every Hearts thread? Of course not, but it was worth a try.
