Memories of '83

My abiding memory of the UEFA European Cup-Winners-Cup Final is shouting through the wee serving hatch from the living room to the kitchen that John Hewitt had scored.  I watched the whole thing by myself as my old dear had f**k all interest in football so went and did the ironing and my old boy was working.

Similarly, I was helping my mum make a cup of tea in the kitchen when my dad roared through that Hewitt had scored.

He had no interest in football, but was cheering the dons that night. I think 99% of Scotland was.

Lots of obvious stuff, as well as my dad dying and meeting the lassie who is my wife.

I had a (slightly) similar experience in 2000, my mother died and two grandsons born within 3 months. Emotions all over the place.

In the last fortnight, my eldest stepdaughter has had a child, my second stepdaughter got engaged, and my dad was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. Somethimes these things just fry your brain.
