Motherwell vs St Johnstone, Wednesday 1 February, 2023

The only positive I can see is our midfield 3 should beat motherwell’s 2 and yes I’m counting Goss in the count. I don’t hate the team, in fact it’s probably our strongest in that formation, but there was zero need to change things. He just never fucking learns!

This formation asks so much of Montgomery and Wright out wide with no support. Surely hitting Motherwell on the flanks would be the aim here given their defense is pish and O'Donnell is playing his first game in ages out of position?

Also really harsh on Connor McLennan, who's being doing well but then gets chucked out of the team at the first opportunity we get against a diddy side. Which basically seems to be so we can accommodate Hallberg plus the two CMs and the two STs. Not worth it.

We're basically set up to make it a shitfest. Could grind out a 1-0 win or 0-0 draw (manager would be pleased with either) but is completely unnecessary given the talent we have within our (fucking massive) squad.

In fairness it is about our strongest team in that formation, but just don’t see why it’s necessary to play 3 centre backs other than his desperation to shoe-horn Hallberg into the starting 11.

Its desperation to be proved right, nothing else.

Im not convinced by that, or he wouldn’t have changed formation at all the last few weeks.  I think he just goes through phases of feeling certain experienced players must play regardless of what everyone else can see.

He’s also done it with Carey and Crawford for spells recently.  He’s had Hallberg in every starting eleven since getting fit, (possibly even since signing), but it’s glaringly obvious we need to start  Clark and May up front again so rather than just do the obvious and drop Hallberg, he fucks about with the entire team set up.

Like you in an earlier post, I was looking forward to this tonight but that team has taken some of that away.  Still, if we get a performance and result I suppose it’ll have been worth it…. Probably.

I wasnt entirely serious tbh, i think his main logic will be wanting to start May/Clark and hes afraid a full on 4-4-2 in an important game.

It looks a bit like a back 4 from what I can see on tv… ??

Always does because Wright plays so high. You notice its not on the left side.
