Jives Miguel Posted March 6, 2023 Share Posted March 6, 2023 Been listening to the new Gorillaz album for a week now. Skinny Ape is an absolute cracker of a song, but the rest Is OK at best. Its middling pop/R&B music with dull featured artists. Going to the bother of getting Stevie Nicks on one track just to relegate her to backup singer. Bizarre. Just like the rest of the releases since Humanz onward, its not a fucking patch on Gorillaz, Demon Days or Plastic beach. Skinny Ape and Silent Running are good songs, Cracker Island and New Gold are decent and the rest are crap. I'm really enjoying the Price of Progress, such an apt title for a sonic leap forward from a band on their ninth album. When Tropic Morning News first came out I thought it was exactly how I expected a song by The National in 2023 to sound. Saw him at Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine on Saturday night. Excellent live act although it was an acoustic show this time. St. Luke’s earlier this year with the full band was incredible. I think he’s playing a full band show in Edinburgh this Friday (?). The new Bluebells album is also a cracker, right up there with ‘Sisters’ despite the 40 year gap. Got a white label of the upcoming Gareth Sager (the Pop Group / Rip Rig & Panic) LP a few months ago and that’s another beauty.
